KATHERINE MCDONOUGH Obituary

Katherine McDonough, 80, of Crystal Lake died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at home. Beloved daughter of the late Tom and Bess Cremin; loving wife of the late James D. McDonough; cherished mother of James McDonough, Thomas (Susan) McDonough, Joe (Jean) McDonough, Mary (Keith) Geismann; doting grandmother of Lara, Harry, Ally Bess, Sean, Anna, Maeve, James, and Erin; sister of Betty (George) Boesen and Janet Cremin; cousin of Joan Provencio and Jeanne Nolan. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., on Tuesday, June 14, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Interment will be in Crystal Lake Memorial Park. Memorials may be given in her name to Friends of the Orphans (Midwest), 134 N. LaSalle St. Suite 500 Chicago, IL. 60602-1036. For information call the funeral home (815) 459-1760.

Jim, Tom, Joe and Mary and all the McDonough family---We should all aspire to be the type of person that Kathy was throughout her life. She never failed to stay in touch with the rest of her family and was unfailingly beautiful whenever we got together. She will be missed. Sorry that i could not get up there for the funeral.

I met Kathy not all that long ago. We sometimes visited on Tuesdays and Thursdays and shared a joke or two and stories of family and travel. She was a dear, dear person and a lovely lady with a brilliant personality. Tuesdays and Thursdays won't be quite the same anymore. It was my pleasure to meet her and my honor to have know her. Peace be with all of you who knew her well and will miss her more.

My memories of Kathy are of the twinkle in her eyes and her good humor. I admired her strength of character and knew her to be a faithful follower of St. Josemaria Escriva (Opus Dei) over the years. I extend my sympathies to her family and support you with my prayers.
