I was saddened to see that Ed Gabel had died. He was my family's paperboy in Topeka in the late 1940s, and I idolized him. I went to Holy Name Grade School from 1st until the middle of 5th Grade, and asked my Mother to ask Ed to be my Confirmation sponsor at Holy Name Church in 1947, I think it was, and he agreed. My brother, Jack, said I needed a sponsor to pick me up after the bishop knocked me down with the slap during the ceremony.

MARY ANN

OUR DEEP SYMPATHY TO YOU AND YOUR LOVED ONES. IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL YEARS SINCE VERYL AND I SAW THE TWO OF YOU. I HOPE ED HAD NOT BEEN ILL FOR A LONG TIME.

MY EARLIEST MEMORY OF ED WAS WHEN US KIDS WOULD RIDE THE CITY BUS TO THE HAYDEN FOOTBALL FIELD AND WATCH ED THE STAR PLAY. I THINK I MET YOU THROUGH MY BROTHER'S FIRST WIFE DIANA DICKSON HOLLY. IF I RECALL YOU OR YOUR FOLKS LIVED ACROSS THE STREET FROM HER GRANDPARENTS CHAS AND IRENE ELLIS. THAT GOES BACK A LONG WAYS.

Mary Ann and families. We are saddened by your loss. We knew Eddie had a lot of health issues over the past few years. As you know, Eddie and I graduated the same year at Hayden. I guess the last time we saw you and Eddie was at the 45th Reunion. We will keep Eddie and your families in our prayers. God Bless!
