C. Christopher Obituary

C. Harry Christopher was born in Ouray, CO, on June 23, 1916, to Harry Arnette and Jennie Fauber Christopher. The family moved to Boulder, in 1921, where Harry attended school and was graduated from the University of Colorado in 1937 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a certificate in Journalism. He worked for two years in the Denver bureau of the United Press Association and later for a photo engraver and a commercial printer. For nine years he was editor of a hotel industry magazine and was executive director of the Hotel-Motel Greeters of America. He was active in the Denver Junior Chamber of Commerce, and was one of the developers of paid admissions at Red Rocks Theater during his tenure as treasurer of the Red Rocks Association. For many years Harry warmed up the audience prior to concerts with community sing-alongs. His singing voice was heard for several years as he performed for the Denver Post Opera. He was a past president of the South Denver Kiwanis Club and University of Colorado Alumni Association. He was one of the founders of the CU Buff Club. He was ordained a deacon in the Episcopal Church on June 18, 1962 and as a priest on December 21, 1962. He was vicar of St. Andrew's Church, Manitou Springs, until 1964; assistant to the rector at St. Michael and All Angels' Church in Denver until 1969; Canon to the Ordinary, Assistant Treasurer, and Director of Operations for the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado until his retirement in 1983. He also served as a deputy to General Convention, and in numerous other roles for the church he loved so much. He has served part time on the staff of Christ Episcopal Church, Denver since his retirement. Harry and Margaret Ann Mayer were married on May 29, 1942. She died on January 16, 1991. They are survived by three sons, John of Denver, Charles of Ashland, Oregon, and Michael of Greensboro, North Carolina; and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memberships included Sigma Phi Epsilon, Phi Mu Alpha, Sigma Delta Chi, and Kappa Tau Alpha. He was a thirty-third degree Mason. Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 2950 So. University Blvd., Denver, at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 22. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the C. Harry Christopher Memorial Fund at Christ Episcopal Church. This is a message for Michael Christopher: Michael I did not know your father, but the words spoken about him and his many accomplishments lead me to believe he was an exceptional man. How fortunate you were to have him in your life for so long. It is hard to offer any words of comfort on your loss, but I can hope that your memories of him and the life you had with each other will provide comfort, laughs, a few tears, and many wonderful memories for years to come. God bless you and your family. In sympathy. Anne Gunn
