SAMUEL MARTIN PROVENZANO

Samuel Martin Provenzano, February 16, 2022, of Abington PA, age 62, due to cancer. A lifelong resident of Abington Township PA, Samuel ("Sam") Provenzano attended Glenside-Weldon elementary and junior high school, and graduated from Abington High in 1977. During the 1960's, he also attended religious school at Beth Sholom Congregation in Elkins Park PA. Sam's university training began at Penn State Abington/Ogontz campus, followed by a transfer to Drexel University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1982, with E.I.T. qualification from the National Society of Professional Engineers. Sam's technical expertise spanned the fields of electrical, software, and audio engineering. His 40-year career included contract and staff positions (some with security clearance) at Kulicke and Soffa, RCA/GE Aerospace, General Instrument, Base Ten Systems, Accusort Systems, Notable Software, L-3 Communications, Two Technologies, Ulticom, and Omicron Development, among others. His most recent position was as Senior Software Engineer for Megger in Valley Forge PA, where he had received a 5-year milestone award in the fall of 2021. His job there (which he always said "was the best one of his life") involved both the hardware and software aspects of the electrical test equipment products that the company produces. As a musician (in piano, guitar, clarinet and violin), Sam was a member of the Abington High School Jazz Band and the pit orchestra for school musicals. His training included studies at the Jenkintown Music School and also coursework at the Philadelphia College of Performing Arts (now UArts). This knowledge, experience and interest led to the creation of his business, Keystone Studios, in 1980. There, Sam provided analog and digital multitrack recording in various formats, often from live performances, at a variety of venues where he also designed and installed the sound reinforcement systems. At the Keswick Theater in Glenside PA, he was the principle sound engineer for more than 500 events, including full concert orchestras and musical stage productions. Acts included: The Buddy Rich Orchestra, The Modern Jazz Quartet, Wynton Marsalis, The Brecker Brothers, Maynard Ferguson, Stephane Grapelli, John Blake, McCoy Tyner, Marion Anderson, The Pennsy Pops, and the musical production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Sam was registered with the NJ Division of Casino Gaming and employed for audio/visual work by the Revel's entertainment division. As house sound engineer for the 7,500 seat Robin Hood Dell East for their summer concert series, he worked with acts such as Roberta Flack and the Spinners. As regional sound engineer for Creation, a national science fiction fan convention company, Sam provided and operated sound and video projection systems in hotels and convention centers in NY, PA and NJ, featuring many of the popular scifi stars. Permanent sound installations included the main sanctuary of Beth Sholom Synagogue in Elkins Park PA, and the Road House Inn in Newportville PA. Other audio engineering work included: the Bob Little Super Sunday magic shows for 25 years; jazz band showcases and summer stock performances for the Neshaminy PA school district; wedding and show bands (such as Central Park The Band, and The Blitz) and live events at Chris' Jazz Cafe in Philadelphia PA. The son of the late Dr. Joseph Provenzano and the late Zelda Provenzano, Sam is survived by his two sisters, Rebecca Mercuri, Ph.D. of Hamilton NJ and Adrienne Provenzano, J.D. of Indianapolis IN, as well as many cousins in the Boxman, Serota, Lamnin, Braverman and Young families. The funeral will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at 11AM, Joseph Levine & Sons Memorial Chapel, 4737 Street Rd, Trevose, PA.
