I am so sorry for your loss. My name is JoAnn Hansen from Casey Iowa and would talk to your husband about once a year. I just found out when I called his cell phone number to ask about ordering a print from him again this year, and found out it was no longer his number and checked further. I enjoyed our talks on the phone.

Our deepest sympathy to Laurene and Elise. Jim was an awesome artist and person. The world of art has lost a great artist. Jim's hometown, Minneota also has lost a great friend and son. We have numerous prints of his and will always treasure them and we are formerly from Minneota. Again, our deepest sympathy to Lauren and Elise.

Dear Laurene and Elise,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Jim was a favorite patient of mine at the dental office. What a unique guy. I always felt blessed to have his paintings in the office. The one in my room was an original of the loons up north. One day when I was cleaning his teeth he commented, "oh, that's where that went to!" He had forgotten where it was...lucky for me I got to enjoy it for several years. We are all lucky to have his beautiful work even though he is gone, he is still with us!
Sincerely,
Bette Jo

Dear Laurene,

As my neighbor and yoga class girlfriend, I enjoyed hearing you share stories of your family life - dogs, home renovation, husband and daughter, and busted toes. It is clear how much you love your family and we share in your mourning your loss. An artist leaves a special legacy to everyone and I am saddened his life and talent were shortened by illness.

We had the opportunity to meet your husband/dad last summer at the South Dakota state fair. He was a wonderful person that took so much time to visit with us. We loved his paintings. We were able to purchase "Pumpkin Patch" from him. We love the painting. My Dad had done that one as a puzzle a couple times and we had fallen in love with it prior. Our hearts were so saddened when we realized he would not be at the fair to visit with again this year. Our sympathy is truly extended. Linda and Wayne of Armour, SD

My deepest sympathy to you Laurene, Elise and all my special cousins especially Gene, Maryann, and Patrick. It has been wonderful to know the artist so well - he was generous, very talented and in touch with nature and humanity. I am very sad. Everyone who passes is a child of God, but some are giants among us. James along with your entire family are in that category. How could we have been so fortunate to be part of this family? May you find peace in knowing that we share your tender tears, moments of laughter in happy memories, and a wonderful legacy.

When I was in the moving business - we moved Jim's home/studio in Edina - After the move he gave me a painting which I have enjoyed ever since - it is framed and hanging in our home - everyone that comes to our home has a chance to view it as it hangs in our entry way - and we talk about Jim and the pleasure his work gives to everyone. Dear family members of Jim's,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My dad 'Richard Novotny' began painting in the mid-late 1960s and consulted Jim on several occasions and had great respect for him and his work. When Jim visited an art gallery in Winona in the late 1980s, I met with him and purchased a print, he cheerfully crafted a special signature on our print. I remember his family well from my Minneota days. Keep the fun times / memories you had with him close to your hearts. Carry on with your lives knowing that you are all people of high integrity in which he is very proud of.
My condolences and best wishes to you all.

Dear Laurene and Elise,

We were saddened to learn of the death of Jim. He has been a big part of our family for many years. He was our son's art teacher at Sunnyside and went the extra mile to teach Brad additional mediums in painting, but also started him on his road to wood carving ducks. Jim saw raw talent and helped to develop it, and it has enriched Brad's life. So many of Jim's painting hang in both of our homes. He was such a gifted and thoughtful man.
Our prayers of comfort are with both of you.
Blessings,
Roger and Jean Schwartz

We attended Pheasant Fest last January for the first time and we were so blessed to spend time with your husband & father. We enjoyed every moment as he signed "The Icing on the Cake" for the Heritage Chapter. Thanks for sharing him with all of us! Here's the picture we treasure.
God Bless your family.

Lauren and Elise , our thoughts and prayers are with you. I will miss the conversations we would have about his pictures. Jim , Tim and I always talked about getting together and going fishing but we just never took the time . I will tell myself to do those things today instead of waiting until tomorrow because you may never get the chance . God Bless You and your family , The world will miss Mr. James A. Meger

Dear Mrs. Meger and Elise,

Your are in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.
We were so shocked and saddened to read of Jim's passing in the paper. We have several of his paintings in our home which he personally signed for us at Hutch & Mantle. He was so down to earth and easy to talk with. A really nice man! He shared some stories about his paintings which we found extremely interesting and made us love our paintings even more. We also discovered our daughters graduated from Edina H.S. together.
May God's everlasting love comfort you both and may your faith in God reassure you that Jim has safely made it home.

Sorry to hear this sad news. I am writing this note to let you know how impressed my parents (Fred and Arlene Zieske) were with Jim. If I have the sorry correct, Jim was cousins with Mary Wyfels and she and my mother were close freinds...perhaps even played together when they were younger? Last year our relation lost a little baby girl after a long struggle to a rare genetic disorder and Jim graciously helped with a donation for her family's benefit (Madison VanLeeuwe) I know my father really enjoyed visiting with Jim this spring and discussing the animals and detail in his artwork. They also purchased and I think had discussed more. (My father is originally from way up in the "boonies" of MN so he has a true appreciation of nature.) Neither of my parents know how to use a computer so I wanted to share for them their deepest condolences. As mentioned before, they were truly impressed by Jim and his artwork. It takes a special person to see all the beauty in the world that surrounds us. His memory will always be a treasure to them. Your family has our deepest sypathies. Laurene and Elise-You have our very deepest symapthy. James was a very special person that we came to know very well through the Pheasants Forever organization. He will be so greatly missed but we have many memories that we will cherish for years to come. We feel so fortunate to have become acquainted with him through the years. We will so miss seeing him and all the fantastic prints at the PF events. Words cannot express how much he will be missed but we are very sure that he is in God's care and can rest in peace. May you and your daughter find peace in your faith with God and we are keeping you in our prayers every day.

God's Blessings,

So saddened to hear about Jim's Death. Was not aware he was so bad. Just heard about him at Lorraine Caron's funeral from Yvonne. So glad we had a chance to visit a little at Tillie's 100th. Glad we bought the Chickadee print. Will cherish it forever. Also had a chance to see and visit with Jim when he had a couple of shows in Litchfield a few years ago. Our Sympathy to you both.

We are saddened for your loss. It was a James Meger print I presented to my husband that inspired my husband's love of wolves. We feel lucky to have met Jim. He was friendly man, and graciously signed our print. Peace be with you and your family at this time.
