Carole Devecka

AGE: 68 ? Toms River

Carole Devecka, 68, of Toms River, New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, New Jersey. Carole was born June 29, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to Lillian and Seraphino Tortorici. She was raised in the Bronx then resided in Toms River, New Jersey for the last 20 years. Carole was the founder and director of Tomorrow's Promise in Jackson, New Jersey and was also well-known for her efforts helping troubled teenagers regain control of their lives. She was a former Recreation Director for Jackson Township and Director of Activities for the YMCA of Lakewood, New Jersey. She was a grant writer for various non-profit organizations and worked as a volunteer for charities including, "Helping Hands Loving Hearts" and Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Carole also enjoyed inspirational writing and is best known for her weekly "God Given Daisies" column published online. As anyone who knew her can attest, her other interests were truly too numerous to list and in her own words declared, "I wanted to see it all, be it all, taste it all".

Carole is survived by her mother, Lillian, her husband, Richard, seven children, thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Abundant Grace Church, 108 Indian Head Rd ? Rte 571, Toms River, NJ 08753. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.kedzfuneralhome.com
