JONES, John John David Jones, 82, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, August 3, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 58 years, five children, Leslie, Julia, Allison, David and Anna, eight grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. John is also survived by his two brothers, Rosser, Paul, their sister Nancy and several wonderful nieces and nephews. John received a B.S. degree from Auburn University in 1951. Afterwards, he served as an officer in the U.S. army at the rank of Captain and attended Emory University School of Law where he received an L.L.B. degree, with distinction. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1957 and joined an Atlanta law firm where he practiced law with the same, now Greene, Buckley, Jones & McQueen, a successor firm, until his death. John was an outstanding trial lawyer during his entire career. John was a member of the Atlanta Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the Lawyers Club of Atlanta, the International Association of Insurance Counsel and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, being one of the founding members and having served on its Board of Governors. John served on a number of committees of the Atlanta Bar Association and as a lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. He also served as a faculty member of the Litigation Section of the Atlanta College of Trial Advocacy. John was one of three attorneys constituting the initial faculty introducing the first Trial Practice Course at Emory University Law School and, since its inception at Emory, has participated as a faculty member in the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Program conducted by the Law School. John was chosen as one of Georgia's Super Lawyers in 2005-2006. In recognition of his outstanding abilities as a trial lawyer, John was elected as a Fellow, the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was a devoted family man who loved God, his family, animals and his community. He served, and was equally loved by all of them. A service honoring his memory will be held Sunday, August 7th, 2011, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at H.M. Alison: It has been said that "a long life is never good enough, but a good life is always long enough." I know that with you as his daughter, your dad's life was a good one.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time.

I met John in 2004 in doing some life insurance planning for him. He was a true gentleman and we became friends immediately. He was one of my favorite email buddies. He was also a man of true integrity and kept a keen sense of humor until the end. He will be missed by many, as he was one of the kindest family men I ever met.

I was President of Georgia Marble Co. for many years and we were a client of John. We developed a mutual personal as well as professional friendship over the years. When I retired, and John "semi-retired", we became email buddies. I think we corresponded and forwarded emails almost daily. I noticed during the last month he had not responded to any emails and was afraid he was sick. He often talked of his faith. Please be consoled that he is in heaven where we can join him someday.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all in this your time of loss. John was a gentleman, a good friend and colleague of Daddy's, and a man of integrity and humor (great combination). I'm confident there's a grand celebration going on on the other side.

I was so sorry to read about John's passing. I have very good memories of him ever since I was a child and Mabel and Jack moved to Jett Ferry. He had a warm smile and made you instantly feel comfortable. His goodness showed and he will be missed.

Mr. Jones was a great attorney amd a down to earth nice man. I worked at Greene Buckley, Jones and McQueen for many years and watched how he cared for his clients and their well being. I am sure he has arrived in heaven to continue watching over his clients and his family.

John Jones was simply a fine man, and he will be missed. The sadness of his passing has reached all the way to California where his stories live on, and his voice is still in our hearts. Thank you, Mr. Jones.
