Stanley Rosendorf Obituary

ROSENDORF , Dr. Stanley Bernard On June 18, 2011 Dr. Stanley Bernard Rosendorf of Deltaville, 84, was beckoned to heaven to join his wife, the love of his life for 57 years, Anne Dunand "Nanette" Rosendorf who passed away June 11, 2011. Stan was born January 22, 1927, an only child, to Shirley Weinstein Rosendorf and Myer Charles "Mike" Rosendorf of Washington, D.C. At the age of 15, he graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School and then attended the University of Maryland until getting drafted into the Army upon turning 18. After training at Fort Rucker and serving at Camp Blanding and the Pentagon, he returned to College Park to finish his degree. He went on to medical school at George Washington University, graduating third in his class of 1953, while also completing a Master's degree in biology. After marrying in '54, the newlyweds moved to Rochester, MN for a neurosurgery residency at the Mayo Clinic before choosing OB/GYN as his specialty and moving to Baltimore to practice. Dr. Rosendorf was a founding member of the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and held a variety of medical board positions there over the years. He delivered over 2500 babies in his career. Everyone that knew him, loved him, especially his patients and nurses. It was in Baltimore that Stan and Nanette raised their two children, Michael Charles Rosendorf of Baltimore and Carole Marie Montgomery of Richmond. Stan was a recreational pilot, an avid sailor and animal lover. In addition, he raised and showed tropical fish and was a founding board member of the National Aquarium in Baltimore. "Pappy" cherished his family more than anything else in life, which later included two greatly adored grandchildren, Jack Montgomery and Travis Montgomery of Richmond. He retired to his treasured "Ropeyarn" on the Piankatank River where so many special memories were made.
By request, remains will be cremated, and a joint celebration of life for Stan and Nanette will be held at Ropeyarn. Donations in his honor can be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, VA 23061.

In 1964 Dr Rosendorf was my OB/GYN, delivering my son at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, MD. I have never forgotten his kindness, support and caring during my pregnancy, delivery and post partum care. Dr Rosendorf was an excellent physician and a fine human being.

Dr. Stan and Nanette had another passion, the Berger Picard. I am heart broken because they won't be at Westminster when the first Picard shows at the garden.

I was so sorry to learn of Dr. Rosendorf (although he always said to call him Stan) and Nanette's passing. He was a special part of our lives--my mother, Sylvia, his office nurse for so many years, my son Brian his last delivery, and he my physician and friend. Please accept out heartfelt condolences.

I hardly know how to express my condolences at this terrible loss. First Nanette and now Stan. They were both wonderful people and good friends. Stan delivered my son 46 years ago at GBMC, and was the best doctor I ever had. After his retirement we stayed in touch and I had the pleasure of visiting them at Ropeyarn. They will be missed terribly for a very very long time. God bless you all.
