I remember Bob as a true gentleman,a solid sportscaster, and an admirable colleague during my early years at Channel 9. I'm sorry we had fallen out of touch after he left WSOC, but am happy to read he lived such a full and interesting life. My sympathies go out to you, Frances, in your loss.

I was lucky enough to work with the Hice-man at WSOC and WBTV. We were not only co-workers, but good friends. Our jobs enabled us to cover everything from the early years of UNC Charlotte basketball, to NASCAR (17 Daytona 500's) to the NCAA Tournament, to the Masters. Bob always remained even-keeled, not matter how much deadline pressure we were under. I never heard him cuss. If he got really angry, me might say something like "great googley-moogley."
Bob never lost his sense of humor. It was geat to see him laugh again when Clack, Moondawg, PC and I got together to see him just a week before he passed.
Robert Harrison Hice (aka Hice-man and Hiceburger)...we will all miss you.

Bob took a green 22 year old and made him a sportscaster. What an awesome teacher! I really believe that being his #2 at WSOC as my first job has helped me have a long career. I am sorry for your loss, but I know God has a special place in heaven for this kind gentle man. I am forever grateful for the lessons he taught me.
