This is Steve McIntyre. I was a student of Dick Ramey when he was the Asst Band Director at Carroll HS from 1973 to 1976. He also taught music theory, a class I enjoyed very much. Dick was a positive force and a wonderful guide. He also gave me good investment advice. After many subsequent years, I met a mutual acquaintance, Wayne Maxwell, and we always discuss sax music and Dick when we get together. I just now found this site, 13 years later, but it´s not too late to offer tribute to a fine man.

I was a reading teacher at Alice Johnson Jr. High when Dick Ramey was our assistant principal. He loved to fill in and teach band whenever he could. His love for music was very obvious, and his outlook on life very optimistic. Nothing seemed to get him down. I remember when he talked about his Boxer when it was young and how it just about chewed up the house! He didn't want to give up on that dog though. Mr. Ramey was a warm hearted, kind, and generous man. I wish God's best for his family.

Mr. Ramey came to Aztec High during a difficult time for our band. Though we had a hard time learning the ways of someone new, he never failed to make the learning experience interesting as well as funny. And he spent much of his time focusing and helping the students' individually who wanted to grow as musicians. I adored him as a teacher and as well as a person. He was always cracking wise remarks and laughing at himself and with his students. My prayers are with Mrs. Ramey and the rest of his family.
