Funeral service for Mrs. Tommie Virginia Muckleroy Alders, 81, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at Eastside Pentecostal Church with Rev. Enis Fuller, David Alders and Bro. Glen Morton officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Mrs. Alders was born on Dec. 25, 1929, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late A.J. "Son" and Clara Hamby Muckleroy. She passed away peacefully on Nov. 9, 2011, in Nacogdoches, Texas. Tommie was a lifelong resident of Nacogdoches and graduated from Nacogdoches High School. She had a long working career ending with 20 years of service as a rural carrier with the United States Postal Service in Nacogdoches. She was an active DRT member, a member of the Colonial Dames and the James Haggard Chapter 1812. Tommie also volunteered for the Nacogdoches Fire and Rescue Rehab. She had also been a Cub Scout Den Mother and was involved in the Young Home Makers of America. She was a previous Sunday school teacher and had held numerous positions in the church through the years and was a member of Eastside Pentecostal Church of Nacogdoches. Tommie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her grandchildren and rarely missed out on their sporting events at school and in the summer. She was a wonderful cook, who prepared many many meals for her family throughout the years, but also loved to do so at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She canned in the spring and summer and entered the County Fair each year for competition. She enjoyed doing cross stitch as a pass time as well. All who knew Mrs. Alders will miss her tremendously. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Nathan Alders, Sr.; her daughter, Donna Rogers and husband, Marty and her son, Nathan "Poogie" Alders, Jr. and wife, Connie all of Nacogdoches; seven grandchildren, Melody Kennedy and husband, Casey, Kyle Alders and wife, Jenna, Justin Rogers and wife, April, Stephen Alders, Jonathan Rogers, Christopher Alders and Cade Alders; four great-grandchildren, Derek, Allie, Katie and Luke Kennedy; as well as numerous other extended family, church family and good friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Stanaland. Pallbearers will be Kyle Alders, Justin Rogers, Jonathan Rogers, Stephen Alders, Christopher Alders, Cade Alders, Casey Kennedy, Derek Kennedy and Luke Kennedy. Memorial Contributions may be made in Mrs. Alders honor to Eastside Pentecostal Church, 3801 Center Highway, Nacogdoches, Texas 75961 or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. Laird Funeral Home.

donna, i am sad to hear of the loss of your sweet mother. heaven has gained a precious angel. i asked you mom to write my nhs who's who entry for our senior yearbook as she was my favorite christlike teacher. her sweet smile and treasured counsel will always hold a special place in my life. prayers if comfort lifted for you and your family.
