Bryan J. Scripsick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 11, 2007.
Bryan J. Scripsick, blond with broad shoulders and a confident smile, was remembered as a caring, sweet and generous man who played football and wrestled in high school. "I always wondered how Bryan could be a Marine," said the Rev. Michael Vaught. "But I think he joined the Marines because he wanted to help people." Scripsick, 22, of Wayne, Okla., was killed Sept. 6 by a suicide bomber in Anbar province. He was a 2004 high school graduate and was assigned to Camp Pendleton. "I believe the circumstances of his death prevented the deaths of a whole bunch of people in the marketplace where the bomber was trying to get to. A whole lot of women and children are alive today because of what Bryan did," Vaught said. His MySpace page, last updated on Aug. 26, featured the mantra, "Have Fun, Stay Young." Said Chris Tucker, Scripsick's high school wrestling coach: "He was a great kid." His brother Brett said that while his brother could certainly be tough when he had to be, he also was the "nicest and sweetest" person you could ever hope to meet. He is survived by his parents, John and Jan.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Scripsick Family know that we have made a small donation to The Semper Fi Fund to honor Bryan J. Scripsick US Marine Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals across the American youth hockey community and beyond. Thinking of Bryan again today. I thought he was my best friend in high school, but I found out that several others felt like he was their best friend as well. He just was that kind of guy. Love you, Scrip!

I was Bryan's crewchief when he first came into the fleet, he asked me to pin his Lcpl chevrons on, I felt very honored to be able to do that. He was a great Marine, and a great guy. The world is a lesser place without him. I think about him quite a bit. God bless him and his family. Semper Fi,Yat Yas

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.

While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more

To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.

The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill

I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

I was in Bryan's platoon when he went over to Iraq. He was the corporal that I looked up to the most as a troop. Since his passing I have tried my best to inbed his leadership traits into the Marines that I train today. We (his platoon) still hold a annual remembrance ceremony on Del Mar beach every year. I will always be thankful to have been guided by such a great Marine.YAT-YAS

I've set aside time today to reflect on the past and remember that your family has suffered the loss of their soldier. Thank you for this soldier's service and duty. The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Bryan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

It's almost been a year and you all are still in our thoughts and prayers! We still don't have words to say that will help, other than to let you know how sorry we are and how much we care.

Bryan's cousin Matt and his wife are teachers and coach to our kids, so we feel like we should know you.

Just remember that God is in control. There are things that happen that we may never understand. We just hope that with the prayers coming your way, your family and friends, and God's continual guidance and love--the hurt will be a bit easier to deal with.

God Bless you all!

To all of Bryan's friends & family.

I try to keep tabs on all of my friends/coworkers/fellow soldiers who are currently overseas. I belonged to the aviation unit here at Hunter Army Airfield & am now a civilian. While I was checking up on my fellow comrades, I came across a fallen hero that was listed as being from Wayne, Ok...my hometown. I know that your family is from the Pauls Valley area but we are all still neighbors. Although I do not know all of you personally, I still can't help feeling like I've lost someone I knew. I did know him in a way, we could relate to knowing all of the same people & places but further more, we could relate to being hometown veterans, a special comradery that only military members could ever know. That simple bond is a deeper connection than anyone could ever share. It's an unspoken respect. I commend Bryan for stepping forward to honor his country, hometown and most importantly, his family. My heart felt condolences to your friends & family. May God be with you all.

To the Family and Friends,
I am so sorry to hear about another fallen Hero! I know there are no words that I can say to ease your pain! The loss of a child is something that is the most difficult thing to bare. We can only pray that one day we will be together again. I was told that if you stretch a piece of string a mile long and line that string with beads, the beads would resemble eternity. Life here on earth is equal to “only one bead”. We have only a short time here compared to the time we will spend in eternity with our loved ones. The only thing I can say is let faith keep you grounded in your life and hold on to your loved ones! This will help you through!I

This is what helps me get through my days, I too have lost. My son, Anthony entered into the Heavens to be with our Lord! We can never understand the reasons why our children would ever be taken from us. I pray that one day our pain will ease!
God Bless Your Family!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

As a Marine you spend a lot time thinking what it is that sets you apart from the rest. It is not what sets you apart that makes you a great Marine but what you do to be one of the pack. I spent many days at work as well as many nights at home with Corporal Scripsick talking about the Marine Corps and what makes a great leader. Brian always had many questions as to what made me a great leader, though I thought I could never live up to the billing he gave me. I could not answer those questions without including the success of what my Marines did for me or why they were loyal to me, but that's what makes a great leader.... the Marines that work for him. Brian wanted to be a great Marine and an even better leader. Even though he never directly worked for me he managed to find the time seek me out and discuss the Marine Corps. We have all lost a great Marine, a great friend and a great man. Brian was one man who cared and truly wanted to do the best he could at everything he attempted. Cpl Scripsick you will be missed and remembered. Remember that heaven's gates are guarded by a US Marine! Semper Fidelis

Bryan Was one of my favorite kids I have ever coached. I coached him as a Senior in Football and Baseball. I knew that he would lead great things as an adult. My son Clay has very fond memories of Bryan because because they became close. I have wonderful memories of my time with Bryan becuase he was able to teach me that no matter how bad things are, you can always smile. Scrip always had a smile on his face. Even when he was having a bad day, he was smiling. I will miss Bryan Scripsick very badly and will use him as an example of how to live life.

As a veteran, I mourn the loss of your son. As a Marine, he is now pulling Embassy duty in the greatest Embassy. No words will temper your grief as our nation is diminished by another man of character leaving too soon. God bless you.

Thank you Bryan for your part in protecting our country. To Bryan's parents: Thank you for raising a fine man. Please know that God chose you to be Bryan's parents. God chose Bryan to serve our country and God chose Bryan's destiny. Be at peace because Bryan is where we all long to be...with God. To our community and the world: Let's continue Bryan's mission by helping everyone that needs help and helping everyone who probably doesn't deserve it. For we are all God's children. To turn away someone in need is to turn away God.

To the parents of Bryan, my heart and prayers are with you now as you go through this time of grief and heartbreak. I too know the pain you are feeling and what you will go through in then days, weeks and months ahead. I am a Gold Star Mother and I have been blessed by God with the strength to reach out to other parents and family to give emotional support that we so need at this time. When and if you are ready please contact me as I will be here for you to talk to, vent, cry or share memories. It takes the comfort of one who has been where you are now to help. May God wrap His arms of love and comfort around you and may you allow His healing powers in your life.

Bryan was someone everyone could look up to. He was a role model to me. He never whined or complained or talked about how bad he had it. We have truly lost a GREAT person. We love you Bryan, and you will always be a hero to me!
