Hello,
We wanted to let your family and friends know that we are sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and some of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Stephen R. Maddies US Army Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Steve was one of my best friends and he volunteered to come back to Iraq because he wanted to work with me and my men. It really surprised me the day he walked into my office after seeing him go home to Tn months prior. It has hurt me so much to lose such a great person and friend for literally no reason. Except Friendship. I cried when I traveled over the Stephen Maddies Memorial Bridge outside of Nashville. He was such a great person.

I am a wife of one of the soldiers that served with him in the 473rd and and we think of him everyday and pray for his family, we wish his children could have come to the ceromony that the unit had for homecoming and we hope that care and love the quilts that were donated for them. This weekend is Easter and "Nanny's" birthday so you will once again be saddly missed by the whole family. Can you believe how big Megan is getting? She's growing up so much and has made the Honor Roll, again. She's so smart, I know you're just as proud of her now as you ever were. She's going to play softball again this summer, can't wait to go to her games. She wants to be a professional softball player or a NICU nurse, what a choice. As smart as that girl is, she could do both. Please watch over them. They love you and need you so much. Have a very happy Easter, Stephen!

Today is Megan's 10th birthday. I can't believe you are not here to see it but I know you will be with her in spirit. She is having a party today at school and then we will have a family party for her on Sunday. I will never forget the day she was born and how you drove from Fayettville to Elizabethton in 4 hrs. so that you could be there. You were so proud of her. I don't think your feet touched the ground for days. I have so many pictures of you with her and I have made her a scrap book of her whole life (8 yrs.) with you, it was not enough.
She loved you more than anything and I know you loved her just as much. Please be with her today as she celebrates, she is so excited to turn double digits.
We love and miss you and will never forget.

Today I realized there will be no more hugs, no more IM's, and no more talks. Sometimes what we care about the most gets all used up and goes away and we realize that we have lost that chance to tell someone how important they are and how much they mean to us. It has taken me much too long to accept that you are gone. Almost as long as it did to accept that you were going back to war. I guess I was hoping by some miracle it had been a mistake. Life is precious and too often taken for granted. I can't imagine how, but maybe this will somehow leave all of us that love you stronger. I will miss our talks and the time that we spent together.

Stephen today our new president was sworn into office. I know you had the best seat to see it all. He mentioned all our fallen service men and woman and what they gave this great nation. He has given us all hope to a better world. Please watch over our new President.
You are loved and missed but never will be forgotten.
Love you Stephen

I am deeply saddened upon hearing of Sgt. Maddies passing. I served with Stephen while in the 82nd. If he ever related the "Red Light Go" incident.....well I was the guy behind him on that jump....he left the plane a little early....we always joked about that one. He was a friend to all and a great soldier who helped many and never flinched at duty. He will be missed greatly but remembered always.

Happy New Year Stepehen
Well it is almost 2009.
I know you will be bringing in the New Year with the Angels.
Still hard to believe you aren't here on earth with us but we know you are watching over all of us.
I got to talk to Megan and Jenea on Christmas and got an e-mail from Sherice and that was really nice.
I know you are gone but you will never be forgotten.
We all love you and miss your smile and laughing. Sometimes I think I hear you when I'm in another room. That puts a smile on my face.
Happy New Year Son.
Love you
