VINCENT BOYD Obituary

Vincent T. (Skip) Boyd of Gladstone, Mo., died March 22, 2011, at NorthCare Hospice, North Kansas City, Mo. He was born July 22, 1932 in Boone County (Columbia) Mo., and attended Sacred Heart School and then Hickman High School, graduating in 1950. In his 78 years Skip spent much time taking care of others and doing myriad charitable works. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1950 in Columbia, transferring later to Council #4962 in Raytown, Mo., where he was instrumental in forming an appreciation dinner for religious in the area. He also was a key figure in the building of a new Knights of Columbus Hall on Blue Ridge Extension. In addition to his work with the council where he was a Grand Knight, he was a District Director, Chapter President and Chapter Secretary. One of his favorite projects was the Knights of Columbus Clown Clubs where he was Skippy, the Clown, for 40 years. Skippy helped form the state Knights of Columbus Clown Clubs and was state chairman at one time. He also was a key figure in forming the Kansas City Knights of Columbus Clown Club and led several clown schools which drew in new clowns. His church activities included being a charter member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Independence, Mo. His current church membership was at St. Gabriel's Church in Kansas City North. God was a very important figure in his daily life, and Skip spent much time praying for others. He was said to never pray for himself but for others only. His work life included Boyd Construction Company and Boyd Coal Company. Later he was involved in pre-cast concrete and then vending which led to his forming Mega Vend, Inc. He served his country with the U.S. Army National Guard during the Korean Conflict. Skip was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifford H. Boyd and Nellie F. Hickerson and a son, James V. Boyd. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Rosetta of the home; sons, Michael, Daniel and Paul, all of Kansas City; a stepson, Keith Hudson (Brenda) of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; grandchildren, James C., Caleb, and Kia Boyd, Independence, and Leah and Luke Hudson, Excelsior Springs and two great- grandsons of Fordland, Mo. Because he touched so many lives, Skip will long be remembered for his definite ideas. He knew no gray areas, only black and white. So those who knew him were never in doubt about his knowledge and opinions. He got things done, never looking back with any apologies. Special thanks to Pinnacle Therapy and to NorthCare Hospice. Visitation is scheduled for 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at St. Gabriel's Church, 4737 N. Cleveland, Kansas City, North with Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at the church. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd. The family suggests donations to Catholic Charities, Attn.: Rozanne Prather, 20 W. Ninth St., Kansas City, MO 64105 or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be left at www.mcgilleysheil.com Arr.: McGilley & Sheil Funeral Homes, (816) 353-6555. M

Rosie, You and the boys, Michael, Daniel and Paul have lost your best friend. Skippy was our best friend for many years. He was the type of person that would gladly give his last dollar to anyone that needed help. He will be greatly missed by everyone and he is certainly in heaven visiting with his son Jim and many other friends he had in his life on this earth. Rosie, Skippy will be in heaven waiting for the day to greet you in your eternal life. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. If there is anyone thing we can do to help you please don't hesitate to call. We will keep in touch with you.

Our friend Skip, what can you say? Well I can say that Skip demonstrated, by the way he lived, our Knights of Columbus principals of Charity and Fraternity like no other person I have ever known. He was an outstanding member of the Knights, a really super clown and a just all around great, great guy. God bless you Rosie, don’t worry about Skip, he’s got to be in Heaven looking out for you and the boys.

Rosie, I have no words to lessen your sorrow but you are in my thoughts. Sometimes we need to have a good cry while we let our loved ones rejoice with God. You know that, If given a choice, Skip would be with you. I hope you can find comfort in the knowledge that his pain has ended and in your memories of the timeless love you shared. We will be waiting to see your beautiful smile when you return to work. For now we will prey that God guide you away from your sorrow for your spirit brightens my day each time I see you. Take each day as they come and let yourself grieve. Surround yourself with others or take time alone. Just do whatever You need and know you have friends waiting for you to return to us.
May God be with you in your time of need

Rosetta,
Wilbert and I have enjoyed the many events of Knights of Columbus and family functions shared with you and Skip. We have enjoyed Skip and yours dear friendship over the years, and although Wilbert is no longer with me and Skip has joined him; I would like to think that their friendship has been rejoined also. Rosie you will always remain my dear friend. Let's keep in touch and our friendship alive. I will continue to pray for you both. With all my Love,

My life is filled with the memories and wonders of Vincent "Skip" Boyd. My Dad's childhood friend who became one of my Mom's best friends for nearly 60 years. My dad will rejoice at the opportunity to spend time with him again, My mom and Rosie are assured that his time here enriched their lives and countless others. He is waiting to see them, when the time is right. God will continue to bless Skip's family and friends who will miss him dearly.
