Dr. Norman F. Johnson

JOHNSON-Dr. Norman F. Johnson, passed away at home on March 23, 2006. Born in Yuma, Arizona in 1924, Dr. Johnson grew up on a farm in the Yuma Valley. After graduating from high sch ool in 1942 he attended the University of Arizona until 1943, when he was drafted by the United States Army. He served as a medic in the 897th Field Artillery, 75th Division. During World War II, he attended the injured at the Battle of The Bulge. Later, he was accepted at the Syracuse College of Medicine in New York. In 1953, he set up practice in Sierra Madre, California, where he saw patients for over 50 years. Additionally, as a general practitioner he delivered over 1,100 babies! Dr. Johnson had a vari ety of interests including coin and stamp collecting, but was mostly known as the "tulip man" because of the beautiful tulips he planted every spring. He also loved collecting rare cycads, cacti and roses. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ann, 6 children, 5 granddaughters, and his brother and sister. Dr. Johnson was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed, but the gardens in heaven will soon have a new care taker. A memorial service will be held at Douglass & Zoo k Mortuary, 600 E. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia on March 26th at 3:00 PM.
