Joanne Duffy Obituary

DUFFY
Joanne Marie Duffy, neé Marquedant passed away quietly on September 19, 2011. She was born on August 24, 1933 in Holbrook, Massachusetts to Francis and Ora Marquedant. Joanne married James F. (Jim) Duffy on April 29, 1951 and they were fortunate to share over 60 years of commitment to and contentment with one another. She served as the proud, diligent wife of her career military spouse and its consequence of many changes. As a military spouse, she volunteered for many years with the Air Force Family Services Program, lending assistance to other military families on the move, and was highlighted by receiving an award of recognition for outstanding work in 1992 from Bergstrom Air Force Base Family Services. They had six children, Sue Duffy, Carol Squire, Patty (and spouse Mike) Kalinowski, Mary Franklin, Bill Duffy (dec'd.), and Jim Duffy (dec'd.). Joanne enjoyed a number of hobbies, ceramics, sewing, needlework, crossword puzzles, and reading. Following military retirement, Joanne's spouse continued work with the University of Texas System, and when they ultimately retired, he helped Joanne follow her dream of travel to many places across the U.S., Alaska, Central America, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal, England, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, and many other places. Joanne is survived by her husband Jim, her sister Evelyn Mulcahy, brother Joe and wife Charlotte Marquedant, brother Fran and wife Connie Marquedant, their four daughters, grandchildren Andy Squire, Jennifer Squire, Joey Gangemi, Liz Franklin, Teresa and her spouse Jason Pratt, Ryan and his spouse Kimberly Orsinger, and Andrea and her spouse Donald Benson; and two great grandchildren, Aidan and Patrick. Joanne Duffy, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend will be missed by everyone who knew her. Memorial services will be Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 11 am at Zoeller Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank the HOPE Hospice program of New Braunfels, and all the staff at Gruene Senior Living Center for their love and care to Joanne. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HOPE Hospice 611 N. Walnut Ave., New Braunfels, Texas 78130, 830-625-7525 www.hopehospice.net or to an Alzheimers' fund. I was a Family Services volunteer with Joanne at Bergstrom, and although we have not kept in touch I remember her work and her sense of humor, and that she was liked by all the volunteers. Bessie Ellis, who also was her friend from wives clubs at Bergstrom, does not have internet, and she asked me to include her in my condolence message. Please accept our sympathies. I'm sure you have many happy memories to comfort you.
