Mark Placke

Placke, Mark Age 39, formerly of Woodbury, MN., died unexpectedly May 4 in Grand Island, NE. He grew up playing golf with his dad and grandparents in Nebraska and cultivated his natural talent after moving with his mother and stepfather to Woodbury in 1981. He graduated from Woodbury High in 1988, a captain of the golf team and all-conference in golf. He attended St. Cloud State University before enrolling at San Diego Golf Academy, graduating in 1991. He had worked at golf courses in Minnesota and in Omaha, Alliance and Ashland, NE. Recently he had been a mid-level supervisor at Swift & Co. in Grand Island. Mark was an excellent golf teacher and was a volunteer golf instructor to young people in Grand Island. Survivors include his brother, Jon (Milena), of Grand Island; mother and stepfather, Kay and Gary Harvey of Woodbury; grandparents George and Delores Person of Grand Island and Ruth Johnson of Tucson, AZ.; uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces, including Alyssa, Sarah and Sessahly Tietjens of Woodbury, whom he loved dearly. Preceded in death by father Larry Placke. A service was held in Grand Island.
