Ryan Jones Obituary
He leaves behind and is so missed by his loving and devoted parents, Kevin M. Jones and Elaine (Skorko) Jones; his great aunts, Helen Skorko of Winchendon, Evelyn Chicoine of Manchester, N.H.; his Godmother, Lois Progen of Fitchburg; his adopted grandmother, Germaine Savoie of Gardner; 2nd cousins and close family members, Eileen and John Goguen of Westminster, Janice LeClair of Westminster; and adopted aunts and uncle, Joan and Norman Gates of Orange and Gail Moynihan of Leominster, Helen Metcalf of Lunenburg all who love and supported him throughout his life; the love of his life for 6 years (whom he met his first year at WPI) Katie Christopher, daughter of Bill and Sharon Christopher of Aurora Colorado; his best friends, Brian Wuoti of Westminster, whom he called his brother, and Nick Fortune of Leominster, his High School Friend and Football Co-Captain, at Monty Tech.
Ryan was born on September 13, 1983 in Worcester Massachusetts. He attended Westminster Elementary School, Overlook Middle School and was a 2001 graduate of Montachusett Regional Technical High School. He was a Co-Captain of the Football Team, the president of the National Honors Society, a Recipient of the Purple and Gold Award for most outstanding male student, Ryan was also the recipient of the US Army ROTC Scholarship Award and 7 other local Scholarships. Ryan was employed at the Westminster Country Club, the Wachusett Ski Area, and McNally's Restaurant throughout High School and College. He loved movies, his Simpson's collection, cooking, golf, snow boarding and excelled in all of them. Ryan was a 2005 graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester with Honors, He received a B.S. Degree in Engineering, Ryan was the recipient of the WPI 1879 Award for most outstanding sufficiency in 2004. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on May 2, 2005 and received the Army Metal of Achievement in 2005. Ryan was commissioned 1St Lieutenant in November 2006. He was stationed at Fort Riley Kansas, until being deployed to Baghdad, Iraq on February 4th, where he was a Platoon Leader. He was loved and respected by all of his men.
Ryan touched the hearts of everyone he met. His warm smile and shining personality made him the special person he was. His memory will live forever in the hearts of all who knew him. He was truly our American Hero!
A Funeral with Full Military Honors will be held on Saturday May 12, 2007 with a Mass at 11:00 A.M. in the Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner, MA 01440. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Ellis and Knower Roads, Westminster, MA 01473. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 11, 2007 from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. in the Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer - Miller - Masciarelli Funeral Homes, 123 Main Street, Westminster, MA 01473. Ryan's family requests that NO Flowers be sent, and Memorial Contributions be made to the Lt. Ryan Patrick Jones, ROTC Memorial Fund, c/o Monty Tech, 1050 Westminster Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.

Ryan you are a special angel to us. Tommy remembers things about seeing you and growing up near you. It breaks my heart that your family has had to be without you. I thought of Ryan yesterday. I was on the flightline 10 years ago to see him off as he left Dover AFB for his last trip home. I was there escorting my niece, PFC Katie M. Soenksen, home to Davenport, Iowa. They were both heroes. May he rest in peace.

On Sunday we had a mass for you and then another today, then we visited your grave and placed flowers and American flags there because you loved your country , the men that served with you, and the town in which you called HOME.

There are no words. Ryan was one of my best friends in highschool. We graduated in 2001 from Monty Tech, the four years together were full of fun and laughter, he sure could brighten a room. He was full of life and was dedicated to everything and everyone he loved. He gave us all something to remember him by whether it was a joke or memory. He will always have a special place in my life.

Ryan, Sundays Mass was said for you and all Veterans who gave their life so that the people could live the lives they do, because of MEN like you who chose to serve their country. We love and miss you so much. We are on our way now to Mt Pleasant where you are now and to the service at the
VFW monument to show our respect to all.
On Thursday the 19th I have organized a committee to help with my "Show your love to a Veteran" project where we will bake APPLE Pies for Veterans" and deliver them to veterans homes. us I believethat Ryan was there to watch over someone who needed it. Ryan Was "irish " in his heart as his father is Irish and though adopted
always said he was Irish, and had those Irish smiling Eyes and laughter. We believe he is in heaven and is a guardian angel who watches over us and all who love him. Those benches were a gift to the people of this town who showed him love and respected when he died and gave him a candlelight vigil on academy hill a few days after his death in Iraq. We knew he would want this and the benches lining main street have given many people comfort as they have told us. We know that Ryan takes care of all those who have served their country
because we have been told by those who have served, We continue to honor our son through his foundation which for the past 6 years has
done so much for veterans organizations in this area and will continue to do so. We have done 13 shipments in Ryan's Name to soldiers in all branches serving and will continue to help
as long as we are able.

To the Jones Family,
I felt a strong urge to tell you a story that involves your son. My boyfriend Donnie (who lives in the immediate area) and I were walking on Main St July 3rd 2013. We walked up to the town common , circled around and were heading back home when we stopped on the bench in front of 84ish main st. We sat there for an hour on this beautiful night.We could hear all the sounds of fireworks in the surrounding towns, and just had a great time sitting there. We have spent time with your son before, reading the differnt benches, and Donnie a D.A.V. and member of Law Enforcement has sat and said his own prayers for im. On Friday , July 5th I noticed my Claddagh earring was missing. This was given to me by my mother, a present from Ireland. I NEVER remove these earrings. I called NUMEROUS places that I had been, My job, YMCA, a friends house and no luck. On July 7th Donnie and I were taking a walk again at dusk, we walked past 86ish Main street ( I hadn't thought to look before writing this ) went our favorite walk, and coming back past this particular bench , to BOTH our astonishment,, amazement, and pure elation was my 18k gold claddagh earring. I have many theories about this that all lead back to one thing, Ryan knew I would find this, I still had the one, single earring in my left ear. Even though this may seem small to some, this was in my mind a miracle. THANK YOU RYAN!!!!!

Thinking of you often Ryan. I never had the privilege to meet you, but I feel like it would have been an honor. You have touched so many lives by your actions, words, life, courage and those left behind. A hole in my heart exists for you as it does for your family and those that did meet you. It's obvious your are an exceptional angel sent by God. You were strong, brave and courageous. As a mother myself, I can't begin to feel the loss your parents have aching for you. You were a childhood friend of my husband, Tommy Gates, and you are greatly missed by him. We feel that your spirit lives on in all the lives you touched and all your parents continue to do in your name. They are also remarkable people and you will be forever missed. Today is Ryan's "Special DAY" it was like a 2nd birthday in that This is the day We Went to Worcester 29 years ago and Got him to bring him home to be our son. That was such a special xmas gift to us.
God gave us such a special Gift in him,
we continue to miss him as does every one who knew and loved him. Today we will go to the cemetery and light a special candle that will burn through the night in rememberance of a special person who touched the lives of so many and continues to do so through
the Ryan Patrick Jones Heart of a Hero Foundation, this year with 16 scholarships,gifts to Vfw, 3 veterans homes, family link for soldiers famlies, blue star mothers, the food bank, neighbors helping neighbors ,fire victims,The thayer Symphony,and numerous other organizations including local fire and police and library & his thanksgiving dinner which served over 300 seniors, veterans and the shut ins of our community , Ryan's light shines brighter then ever, just look to heaven and see the brightest of stars and you know he is thinking of each of you and ask each of you only this ....do good things in his honor and God will reward you in your life (as he has done for Kevin and I.)
Yesterday a bill in washington was sent to name the westminster Post office in memory of Ryan. Our mission of rememberance is almost complete.
A bridge named in his honor, 10 granite benches place in various locations 5 being along main st in westminster, and now the Post office.
Our last mission is a small memorial
park on our property when a Bench
A plaque, A clock and an american flag will be placed to Honor Him and all who have served in Iraq & afghanstan so that people do not forget the ultimate sacrafices our young men make so that we can live the lives we do in this country,,God Bless America and God

your Free annual Thanksgiving day dinner
to honor seniors and Veterans of your community-lots of prep work to get done with ordering all the food for over 300 people & everything and going around like crazy to make sure it is perfect for you- because it is the highlight of the holiday season for many elderly and veterans. Your memory remains alive in so many because of your Foundation and this is one event
that keeps you alive in the hearts of so many who knew you and those that wished they did. I didn't post here on your Birthday you would have been 29 on
Sept 13 but Dad and I honored you at your grave site sprucing it up with some fall decorations which you always loved and we put up all the scarecrows at the house in your honor as well. You photo posted at the front door as it was since you died, because this home was for you , this town is yours !
Your 10 benches are all over town and the places you loved, which honor your
memory. Children at the library remember you because you fund the children's special reading programs,
17 scholarships were given this year at
various schools in your memory, and veterans received packages overseas and back home welcome gifts at family link
when they return from the war because of your foundation, We will continue to honor you Ryan Every time we pass over your bridge named in your honor, every time we sit on one of your benches,every time some one is fed at the food bank because of your donations. We will never let any one
forget what an amazing gift your were.

meeting Sgt. Andre Knight who
survived That May 2nd explosion
on your humvee.The loss of both legs,serious injuries, and 29 operations later, he is
doing well and getting married in July. We had an afternoon with him and his mother and we
talked about how you were such an amazing person. He love and
respected you and said you always put your men first looking out for all. I gave him some of my favorite pictures of you and he was really glad to receive them. He said he will never forget you Ryan and misses you, as we all do. It was great closure
for all of us as it will be 5 years May2that God called you
to leave us.

Each year that Ryan is gone is not a sad time but a celebration! A celebration that we got to know him and to remember how he touched all our hearts as he did. Ryan It is the 4th anniversary of you passing and you were remembered at a special mass said for you Sunday. It seems like yesterday that we lived through that awful day and yet it also seems like 1000 years ago. Time does not make it any easier no matter what"they" tell you. There is not a day that goes by that you are not in my heart on my mind and in my prayers, or you dads. We both miss you and your big smile so much and our hearts will never heal from this loss.
You were and always will be our
special son, the love of our lives and you memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew you and loved you.
Our lives go on, but always with a big gap... missing you, that oh so very special smile
that sillyness, those phone calls always beginning with that yell,,, MA_MA...and me answering SONNY!!!!!! and us laughing and calling out ..
Yesterday at church I wore your
favorite PINK shirt...the one I wore on the day We burried you and the one I wear every year on your anniversary.. Pink... your favorite color!!!
(your house...still pink.)to honor you and your memory...and your photo posted at the front door with that Big smile of yours to greet all who come , and you WPI Car still sits in the driveway, as a rememberance of your suprise 18th birthday gift, I know I should get rid of it but it so part of you and I just cant let go ...not yet....should I make a planter out of it, like I said?

Today is the third anniversary of your passing Ryan and you are so missed.
We will go to Mass today which is being
said for you, and Visit the cemetary like we do every sunday after mass, and will place flowers and new flags in
your honor, and my heart will stll ache
as it does every day for the past three years, and I will see that smile
in my mind as I do every day when I wake and I will remind myself that I was the blessed one for 23 years because GOD choose ME to be your MOM, and I will wait for that day that God calls me and allows me to hug you one more time. In the night Sky, I see you in those stars...that one brightest shinning and twinkling like your bright and beautiful blue eyes)always in the same spot when I look up and I know that THAT IS YOU winking at me telling me that you
are with Jesus, who was ever so presentin your life here on earth,and that you are truly at peace now, and I will somehow feel your spirit as I close my eyes and thank God that you are in a better place. But my heart never stops
hurting, though I feel you telling me
not to be so sad. I just cant help myself because You Sonny" were the
light in our lives.

I attended the memorial service for Lt Jones at Fort Riley, KS. He worked with my husband whom was unable to attend the service in Iraq because of duty, but wanted to express his condolences. Therefore I stood in his place as many of us military wives do. I know family and friends are very proud of LT but I'd still like to say
JOB WELL DONE LT.

I am sitting here in shock crying my eyes out
having just found this webpage after doing a search
for "Ryan Jones, CT."
I was his Gifted and Talented teacher when he was in 5th grade in Plainfield.
I was reminiscing by looking at a scrapbook
I had done of the kids and their projects.
There are two pix of him with the broadest smile on his face, such a happy kid as I remember,
always ready with a smile for me :)
What a pleasure and honor to have had him in class and see him excel !
I am devastated to learn that he is
gone from this war stricken planet.
How fortunate we all are to have
been in his presence...
THANK YOU RYAN...and to your family,
please know I couldn't be prouder of him, as I know you are...

I am sitting here at Ft. McCoy working the third shift and pull up a title of support our service men and Ryan's picture comes up on the screen. I have known Ryan for many years through our church, he was a wonderful kid. He is missed because of the life he lead. Ryan was a goog example to many people in our community. I am greatful for have known Ryan and his family.

I had the privilege of serving with Ryan and Astor during peace and war. Even though we were never close they have left an indelible mark on my life and I have taken their loss harder than anyone would imagine. I can only imagine what those who knew them even better and loved them more are going through and I grieve with you. I posted a series of photos and a video to the internet to remind the world of not just how they made the ultimate sacrifice but rather to document how they lived.
