LAKELAND - Matthew Todd Bredbenner, 24, a life-long resident of Lakeland, died May 14, 2011. Cause is pending.
Matthew was born January 9, 1987 in Winter Haven to Todd and Patricia Bredbenner. Matthew attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he was an altar server. Matthew commenced his Catholic and academic education at St. Joseph's Catholic School and graduated with high academic honors from Santa Fe High School. Matthew was a student with the College of Engineering at Florida State University and was an enthusiastic musician and guitarist. Matthew excelled at sports and was actively involved with competitive soccer and hockey leagues.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Bredbenner and his aunt, Marianne Vilga. Matthew is survived by his father, Todd Bredbenner and his wife, Jean Bredbenner of Lakeland, his sisters, Allison and Hillary Bredbenner, his uncle and God-father, Walter Smith of Virginia and his grandparents, Helen and Wads Karr of Ellenton. Matthew was very proud of his 2 year-old nephew and God-son, Hayden Bredbenner.
Friends will be received from 4-8 pm Friday at the Lakeland Funeral Home Chapel. A Catholic Funeral and Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Entombment will take place privately in the Lakeland Memorial Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum.

Matthew was not just my little brother but my best friend. I feel as if a piece of myself has been lost along with his passing. Matthew and I were as close as two souls can be to eachother and i will always carry him with me in my mind. One day I'll catch up with you little brother...

Matt was a very bright young man. I taught him at St. Joseph's for one year. He will be missed by so many people. May God rest his soul and comfort his friends and family in this untimely loss. Life is SO fleeting and fragile. It is a reminder to cherish life and those we love. May God be with you.

Matt and Ryan were such close friends al through school, and Ryan spend a lot of time at your home. We have all of you in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time and in the days ahead.While there is sadness here that Matt is gone, I know Trish is rejoicing to be reunited with Matt. Trish was pregnant with Matt when I took her class at St. Joseph's.I remember how excited she was. They are together again. I am so sorry for your loss.
