In the 1970s, my wife, then named Hanna Peck, taught English as a Second Language to members of the Iranian Air Force. Her instruction had a mechanical and aviation emphasis, as the airmen who completed her course were sent to Texas to be taught helicopter mechanics in English. Sometimes General Khosrodad would come in to her classroom and take a seat. She included him in the lessons in good humor, saying "Would the General wish to answer this question?" Khosrodad spoke fluent English and thought this was hilarious. Today, Hanna lives in a care home but she remembers General Khosrodad and his sense of humor.

Chanced upon this website, looking for General Khosrowdad riding SeaSpray, my father's horse in Esfahan. I vividly remember him walking past me towards the horse when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. He was such an impressive man. The way he walked and carried himself. Made you feel proud to be an Iranian.
This was one soldier who will not be forgotten.

I think of my friend Manouchehr often. He was a true gentleman and leader. I was his trainer for show jumping during the 1970's. He was an amazing athlete and attentive student. We became good friends over those years. I heard of his cruel assassination when I was in Virginia watching the news of the revolution. I was devastated. It was such a waste of an amazing human being. I have nothing but fond thoughts of a great man. May he RIP.

I met General Manouchehr-Khosrowdad at a IIAA (Imperial Iranian Army Aviation) event. I believe it was early spring 1978. The event was a lavish outdoor affair - Persian Carpets covering what appeared to me to be acres of outdoor patio space; helicopters landing close by depositing VIPs; expensive automobiles chauffeuring individuals all, to meet the distinguished looking man with the gray hair. Asking my friend Tom O'Shaughnessy who the man was, I recall him saying words to the effect, He is responsible all of this, as he swept his around the entire space. To begin, I was in awe of the whole formal affair now, to catch a glimpse of the individual for whom the occasion was designed for, I was in awe.
Tom O' suggested we go and meet the distinguished looking man. Hesitantly, I joined Tom O' as he walked up towards the General, a phalanx of security blocking our way. As we got closer, I could see a number of senior military officers and dignitaries close to the General all trying to gain his attention. Expecting to be turned back, I was preparing to back away when Tom O' said over the top of heads that blocked our way, General, I would like to introduce you to my friend. Tom O' was a retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. used to senior officers and dignitaries I, on the other hand a 29 year old former U.S. Air Force enlisted man with no experience to speak of and was beyond nervous. The General, speaking in Farsi to security caused them to quickly step aside. Extending his hand, Tom O's introduced himself then pointed to me and said, This is my friend, Ruben. As he shook my hand, in English the General asked my full name. Bohuchot, I replied pronouncing it Boucher, as the French would. Hearing a French sounding name, he quickly switched to speaking French. Just as quickly determining I didn't speak French, he switched back to English. For the next ten or so minutes I was totally awestruck - here was one of the most powerful men in Iran and he was taking the time to ask questions and learn about me and my friend, our families and life in Iran. On a couple of occasions, staff members tried to guide him to dignitaries close by, but he kept talking to Tom O' and me. Then, just as quickly as the conversation began, we were saying goodbye and agreeing to meet again in the future.
I apologize for taking so much space just to say, I met General Manouchehr-Khosrowdad. However, I not only met the man but, in the short time that we spoke, I was left with a life-long sense of having met someone special. Special to the point that when asked through these many years since, You have met many individuals in your life-time, who has impressed you the most? Without hesitation I respond, General Manouchehr-Khosrowdad!

A poem, by Shiraz, 9, his grand daughter
Once upon a time
There was a very brave general
He faught trough night and day,
Trough snow and sun, ice and rain
To live or die
He would always pray to stay alive
But one poor day, they all died
And got defeeted by something
Something mean and soure
And Starting that day
Iran was not bright
It was all dark.

Seldom does one come across such an individual. His achievements within the aviation community are still unbroken. I have researched the General and one thing is unmistakable, his leadership ability, honor, compassion and patriotism sine through.
Iran for centuries has always had the ability to produce the most dynamic individuals and leaders of men. I am not an Iranian but feel that all Iranians should be proud to have had such a dynamic character in your history.
If you permit me, I celebrate this amazing man and reflect on his incredible life. All Iranians should be proud to call him theirs

Gen. Khosrowdad was one of the best officers in our military in Pahlavi era. As a pilot myself, I have researched his accomplishments with respect to roto-crafts and the records he set back in early to mid seventies, no one has broken thus far. He was a true hero. I salute him as a Persian, a pilot, and a human being. God bless his soul. I am so glad that Ms. Kosrowdad has created this guestbook/blog for Gen Khosrowdad.

General Khosrowdad has always and will always inspire every proud Iranian. In life he was a living legend and in his passing he equaled the tragedy of the heroes of our Shahnameh. Our beloved Khosrowdad was literally the closing chapter of Iran's book of kings. The final chapter of the Shahnameh.
Today, I say let us miss General Khosrowdad but also celebrate his meaningful life. For those who do not know, let me just say that 30 years after his unjust execution, Manuchehr Khosrowdad continues to maintain the world altitude record and 3 ascend rate records attained by a helicopter weighing less than 4500 Kg. He broke these records on April 29, 1975 in Ahwaz and these records have not yet been broken.
You will always be my inspiration. You were a man of courage and integrity until the very end.
