Condolences to the family of Alene. Just wanted to include some background info for you. My half sister was Emily , whose mother was Carrie Duerk (died at childbirth) and father was Ernest Degen (from Richmond , VA). Emily was born in Defiance in 1915. She passed away in 1991. My name is Ernest J. Degen (Richmond, VA) and I was Emily's half brother. Eventually Emily came to live in Richmond with her father and his family. Alene visited us in Richmond, VA and Emily would travel to Defiance to visit her mother's relatives.

Thanks for your service. As a fellow nurse I also went to the University of Va medical center with plans to improve my Operating Room experience. 30 yrs later I retired. A very fast wonderful nursing career. Wish I could have heard your life story. It must have been amazing but to you it was what you were born to do. You will be missed.
