Mr Otto was my homeroom teacher at Ann Arbor Senior High in 1967-68. I recall him as a kind and gentle man, a great lover of music, and it was thanks to him that I attended a recital by Virgil Fox. I'm delighted that he was able to live to such a great age -- and still making music all the while. Well Done, Mr. Otto, well done indeed.

Rupert was the first person we met at the Michigan Theater that was involved with the organ restoration. This was sometime in the early 1970s. His friendship led us to be part of the theater restoration project. We enjoyed hearing him play for many years.

Rupert and I had a special bond over the last 7 years. He taught me piano, how to laugh at life and that the young and old are not that different. I showed him the importance of exercising to keep both mind and body sharp. I was there to care for him yet, all said and done, it was the other way around. He became my grandpa and my very best friend. I am sincerely honored to have known him. I'll always miss you, Rupert.

As new residents of Chelsea in 2007, Chuck met Ruppert at Big Boy in the morning. From then on, Ruppert's fascinating personality was captivating. Ruppert opened up his home to us, played the organ for us and our friends and family. The likes of this man we will never see again. God rest his soul. Chuck & Carol Quandt.

Fondly remembered from Pioneer High; rest in peace, Mr. Otto. Always a smile, a good word and oh to hear him at the keyboard. Thanks for all you've given.

"The only permanent thing in life is change" Rupert Otto - He had this on a sign hanging from his social studies class in Pioneer around 1975/1976 and it always stuck with me.

More than a piano teacher to me; more like a family member. Rupert was a wonderful, giving soul with great passion for teaching. I will miss him dearly.

An organ never stood still when Rupert Otto was around. Quite a musician. And he always laughed at your jokes
regardless of how poor they were. Rupert was one of my favorite teachers at AA Pioneer HS and I know many of my classmates felt the same. "Mr. Otto, I have one more paper to hand in!" (see below) I feel he is making music and correcting papers behind the Pearly Gates! God Bless!
