Wyatt Walker Obituary
Walker lived and worked in Atlanta for the SCLC only four years, from 1961 – 1965. But his life after Atlanta saw him become a towering ministerial figure in New York City as he preached against injustice and intolerance and for better schools and neighborhoods.
He left the SCLC in 1965 to become pulpit minister at the Abyssinian Baptist Church, with the intent of succeeding Adam Clayton Powell. With that becoming less likely, he took over as pastor of Canaan Baptist Church of Christ in Harlem, where he remained for 37 years.

Our condolences to the family and friends of Rev. Wyatt Tee Walker. A great man has passed our way and I am elated that God allowed our paths to cross at Boston University and in the Peace Corps. Rev. Walker had a stupendous ministry in the faith and to the community. To God be the glory for the great thing He has done. Dr. Wyatt T., I called him godfather. I remember the many times in my family living room listening to the stories of his walk with Dr. King. I remember the last sermon I heard him preach. The message I still carry to this day. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Love to the family.
