Battersby, John Vincent
59, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017, after a valiant battle with leukemia. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his journey and gave him much peace. John was born on May 10, 1958, in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended elementary school in the Valley and graduated from Brophy College Preparatory in 1976. After completing his bachelor's degree at the University of Arizona John became a physician in 1985 upon graduating from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He maintained a thriving family practice in Phoenix for more than 30 years. John was blessed with a loving family, faithful friends, and devoted patients. He married the love of his life, Cheryl, in 1990, and together they raised their daughter, Ashley Vu. With his family and friends John enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching sports and movies. In his medical practice he took great pleasure in helping his patients achieve optimal health. We will all miss John's warm personality, his great sense of humor, and his uncanny ability to put others at ease. John is survived by his wife Cheryl; his daughter Ashley Vu (Louis); his grandchildren Olivia, Natalie, and Alex; his sister, Joan Mones-Galliven (Bob); his aunt, Phylis Crisp; and his cousins Ryan Crisp and his two young daughters. John is preceded in death by his mother Kathryn Battersby; his brother Joseph Battersby; and his uncle James Crisp. A funeral Mass led by Fr. Anthony Sauer, S.J. will take place at 8:30am on Saturday November 18, 2017 at Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Ave., Phoenix 85012, with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 9925 W. I just found out that you have passed away. I'm so sad!! You have been my Dr since I was 2 yrs old and all the way til I was 21 yrs old wen u stop taking my insurance. RIP to the best Dr EVER!! We love n miss ya so much!!

I'm so sad to know my favorite doctor passed away. He was so loving, caring and made sure I had top notch care for many years. He was my dr since the age of 2 up until I was 31 yrs of age when my insurance cancelled and he no longer took my insurance plan. My condolences to the family. Dr Battersby, you were 1 of a kind. So thankful you took care of me and my family all these years. Wish I would've seen you before you passed. Never knew you were sick. I'm so heart broken. You were and always will be the best doctor in the USA.

Dr. Battersby was the first and only doctor I saw since moving to AZ in 2003. He was the most professional and caring man, helping me through several serious medical issues. Dr. Battersby will be missed! A doctor unlike any other❤

Dr Battersby was my doctor for 25 yrs and he truly helped me through many issues..I quit going to him when my insurance changed and I couldnt afford to see him but kept trying to see him and he let me make pmts...I always told people that I have to go back to him as I missed him so much...I remember when I had pneumonia and admitted to hospital and wasnt sure was gonna make it, he came to the hospital and held my hand..I will never forget it...my sons also went to him and I found out he passed when one of them called to make an appt to see him..I was so saddened to hear he was gone..he was a great and caring doctor..may he rest in peace..

I am so sorry about the sad news, which shocked me.
Dr. Battersby is an excellent Doctor, and I am using present tense, because he lives in our hearts. He diagnosed me with Severe Chronic Stress and Anxiety in 2007, being very professional, knowledgeable, and understanding.

We just heard of Dr. Battersby passing today (5-8-2018). We were so sad when he stopped practicing. Dr. "B" was the best Doctor ever! Both my husband and I just adored him. I saw dr. Battersby back in early 2017 he had been my doctor for 20-plus years and I credit him for saving my wife's life when they found a hole in her heart it was Dr Battersby that sent her in for the referral Dr. Battersby was the most wonderful doctor I've ever had . He took selfless care of my children and my family and myself. Doctors health grades review are 4.9 out of five but he was a 10 in my book. I just found out today that he passed on from the same awful disease that took my wife's life in 2009 . I send my sincere condolences to the family, I know you must have loved him so very much he was such a caring man and always took all the time it needed when any of us visited him, when you were with you you could tell he really cared . my wife Donna was a medical assistant and I'm sure your church and services were packed just as my wife's were because everyone loved her so very much and sure they loved him as much. Thank you for letting us share the gift of the doctor with us may God bless you and hold the memory of all his time with you in your hearts forever . God bless all of you may you have comfort knowing how much he touched people's lives and made a difference.

John Battersby was a wonderful, kind and generous person who was on a life long mission to help others in any way he could. I was blessed to have him as my doctor over so many years and he was the doctor of generations of my relatives. He worked so hard for his patients and knew them all by first name. I once asked him why he didn't go to an Andrew Weil seminar that he wanted to attend and he said he couldn't leave his patients. He was an excellent diagnostician and would do anything to ensure his patients got the exact care they needed. He often answered the practice phones himself and called in the patients from the waiting room. He was in his element of helping others. It is very sad that he transitioned so young. He deserved a long life and a happy retirement for all he sacrificed and did for the community. My condolences go out to his wife and daughter and family. There will never be such an amazing man like John to grace the Earth with his presence. I will always be grateful that I was so fortunate to know him and learn from him. Rest in peace Dr. Battersby and thank you.

Dr. Battersby was truly incredible. I was a patient of his but only went to him a couple times and like many others, he had already made a great impact on me. I'm saddened to hear of his battle with leukemia. I've been to many doctors in my lifetime but never had anyone treat me quite the way he did. He was gentle, did so many things himself (things that doctors usually have assistants do) and you can tell he truly cared about his patients. Dr. Battersby had a lot of love within him and I'm grateful I was able to meet him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and anyone who was close to him.

I just found out that we had lost Dr. Battersby today. He has been our family doctor for many years.
I first met Dr. Battersby when he was treating my uncle at the end of his life. He fought to keep him in the hospital and after watching the care he gave my uncle, I knew that we needed him as our physician. He has always been a one-of-a kind doctor and this was the best decisions! I am grateful to him for many things he has done over the years to care for my family.
The homeless knew Dr. Battersby because he frequently before or after hours would take care of their needs. He gave back to his community in so many ways.
He was such a gentle, giving, selfless man and it has been such an honor to know him.
My heart goes out to his wife and family in their loss. I hope with time that the sadness dims and falls away and it is replaced with joyful memories of him.

SO sorry to hear this news. Dr. Battersby was my doctor for over 20 years. I recently moved away from Phoenix and had sent him a letter stating how wonderful he was to me all of those years. I pray he received it before he passed.

Dr. Battersby treated me at a time when I couldn't afford treatment and without knowing me. Although I eventually moved over 30 miles away from his practice, we retained him as our family physician. He was truly a wonderful dr. Our most deepest sympathy during this time. May he rest in peace.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Batterby. I have been a patient of his for 21 years. I live in the far west valley and he was not in my insurance network, but, I continued to see him because of the trust that I had in him. I just heard of his passing while scheduling my annual check up. I just can't believe that I won't be seeing him this year. I feel privileged to have been a patient of his. He truly went into medicine because he cared about people and wanted to help. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

My family and I loved this man as our doctor. He demonstrated concern and love for us during every visit and we have lost someone who showed us what a family doctor should be. He always took the time to discuss our concerns, explain treatment options and encourage us. He would call us after office hours to give us test results or follow up. Once, I encouraged him to bill my insurance company for these "follow up" visits the way other doctors required follow up visits to review test results, he laughed and told me, "I didn't go into this field for the money".
And so I believe he went into medicine to use his intelligence and gifts to really help and care for people's health.

God bless and comfort his family during this time of sadness.

This was and still the best Doctor me and my family has ever had. This man was very genuine, very respectful, cared about his patients, and not a money type of Doctor... He treated us like family and we returned the love... I could come to him and ask him anything and he always had an answer... I gave him a TV stand for Xmas and I know hes a dr and got way more money than I do, but the look on his face when he received it, stated he never gotten anything from patients and appreciated it... I knew that he spoken so happily about his grandkids, and again I gave him a card, a ferris wheel pic frame so that he can put pics of his grandkids in, My family is so heartbroken to hear that he had a battle to fight of his on, but he treated and cared about others that was battling with their health, and for this reason u are the BEST... Dr. B u will truly be missed, as I sit here with tears flowing from my face, ur memories will forever be here.... My deepest condolences to Dr. John Battersby's Family. I for 1 will sorely miss him and the banter we use to share on my visits to his office. My wife and I became patients of his either in late 1988 or 1989. During one of our recent visits to him, He had asked about that, and mentioned we were one of his oldest patients and thanked us.
