Brigid Costelloe Obituary

Sister Brigid Costelloe, SJC

Sister Brigid Costelloe passed peacefully to God December 11, 2012 at Jeanne Jugan Residence, San Pedro. She was born in Cork, Ireland, October 18, 1927 into a family of strong traditional and religious values. She was the fourth of five children. She entered St. Joseph of Cluny novitiate in Ireland, September 1947. Her first assignment was to Philadelphia and then on to Wilmington, California where she joined the faculty of St. Peter and Paul School. She subsequently devoted many years to classroom education at St.Catherine Laboure, Torrance and Newport, Rhode Island. As RCIA, adult religious education and spiritual direction developed as parish ministries, Sister Brigid served various parishes in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including the Spirituality Center in Orange, California. For the last six years of Sister Brigid's life she benefited from the loving and excellent care of the Sisters and staff of Jeanne Jugan Residence She will be sadly missed by her Cluny Sisters, many nieces and nephews in San Diego and Ireland, and her numerous friends. Visitation will be at the Jeanne Jugan Residence of the Little Sisters of the Poor, 2100 S. Western Ave., San Pedro, CA 90732, Monday, December 17th at 9:00 a.m. Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. in the Residence Chapel. The burial will be at All Souls Cemetery, Long Beach, CA, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cluny Sisters' Retirement Fund, Cluny Missions or Little Sisters of the Poor.
