Ammon Glatfelter Obituary

YORK Ammon F. Glatfelter, 87, surrounded by his family, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Manor Care North. He was the husband of Lucy (Bupp) Glatfelter, whom he married 65 years ago on May 22, 1948. Ammon was born February 3, 1927, in North Codorus Township, and was the son of the late Ralph and Sylvia (Folkenroth) Glatfelter. He worked as a Supervisor for over 25 years with Greens Dairy before retiring in 1989. Ammon proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of the Allen J. Beck, Jr., V.F.W. Post 5265 in Spring Grove; Windy Hill Senior Center in Spring Grove; the 25 Year Club of Greens Dairy; a former member of the Vikings Club in York; and a 50 year member of St. Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Church in York New Salem. In addition to his wife, Lucy, Ammon is survived by his son, Ricky Glatfelter and his wife, Shirley of York; his daughter, Connie Snyder and her husband, David of York; four grandchildren; three great- grandchildren; and his three sisters, Shirley Gentzler, Vonnie Jackson, and Cindy Mitzel, all of York. Ammon was preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph, Carlton, Alvin, and Nevin; and his sisters, Julie, Revina, and Vietta. Ammon's funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at St. Jacobs Evangelical Lutheran Church, 99 E. George St., York New Salem. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Jacobs Union Cemetery adjoining the church. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, The Rev. Lisa Hair. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf.
