James William "Jim" Hovis obituary, Broken Arrow, Okla.

James Hovis Obituary

James William "Jim" Hovis, 62, died Friday, May 15, 2015, after being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1200 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to National Brain Tumor Society at braintumor.org; please direct the gift to GBM research. Jim was a former resident of Arlington. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington. He met his beloved wife of 32 years, Jill Higgins Hovis. Together they raised two sons, Paul and Scott. Jim's parents, Dwight and Jean Hovis, had numerous businesses in Arlington. In 2013, Jim retired and relocated to Tulsa, Okla., with his wife, Jill. Jim and his family attended Trinity United Methodist Church of Arlington. Jim was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Jim was a world-ranked water-skier and loved playing tennis and the drums. Jim's favorite travel destinations were anywhere near water. Family vacations were always a beach location: California, Florida, the Texas coast, Hawaiian islands, Bermuda and the Caribbean -- all were his favorite. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Hovis. Survivors: Wife, Jill; son, Dr. James "Paul" Hovis of Baltimore, Md.; son, James "Scott" Hovis of Austin; father, James "Dwight" Hovis of Weatherford; sister, Ann Sonnier and husband, Kent, of Weatherford; nephew, Jeff Jones, wife, Amy, and nephew, Jon Jones, all of Weatherford; and cousins, Jo Beth Vines of Mansfield, Dana Silcox of London, England, and Becky Morrison of Branson, Mo.

Ann I just want you to know how sorry to hear of the of your brother Jim. I am always reading the obituaries since I was a little girl in Gunter, Tx. Sorry he must have had an unbelievable time with his diagnosis. He is with the angels now. Prayers to you and your family. Peggy Puckett Geier, Arlington, Tx.

We are shocked and saddened by Jim's passing. The Hovis family were our next door neighbors at our first home and many great memories of our time there and the great friendship of our families.. We will miss Jim and pray for him and for Jill, Paul, & Scott.
