I didn't know Stuart McRae personally, but I took 3 Anthropology courses from 1992 - 1994 with him. To this day, I have never had a teacher who made me want to learn a subject more. He always had time for every one of his students, and made us feel like we were the the most important person in the room. I regret that I didn't get the opportunity to know him better. Just last Sunday a story about Chagnon and the Yanomamo was featured on CBS, and the first thing that came to my mind was Stuart. I'll never forget him, and I thank him for giving me such a love for Anthropology!

Stuart,

For more than 30 years I have loved you. You, Moose and me at Crescent Beach ... and obsidian blades in Quirigua!

I dreamed of you your last week. I did not know you (so full of life and love) were even ill. I will forever regret not calling to say goodbye and tell you (although it was impossible) I would have done anything if I could have made you happy in my Wall Street Lawyer's life.

You were the best of so many of us and "larger than life" to all of us. Thank you. I envy God having his man of grace at his side.

My sincerest sorrow to your family and friends.

One year has felt like many without Stuart in my life. I pray for rest and peace for his soul in a place of light and repose. May his legacy live on in his family, friends, students and colleagues. To know him was to know joy and fun and a true friend and Southern gentleman. I love you, forever, Stuart McRae. Thank you for being my family.

Stuart McRae was my uncle and I just learned of his passing. His sister, Anne McRae Darley was my mother. He was by far the coolest, most interesting person I have ever know and treasure the time I was able to spend with him. He will be missed by many.

I met Stuart at the track in Delaware in 1987 were he has his filly racing. We quickly became friends and although the last years life took us our separate ways, I love Stuart as a friend and mentor. He was the most incredible person I have ever met. I feel so sad and I know he's in a better place. Will be miss by hundreds of people. I will always remember our days at the track and his farm..Trully an incredible human being,,,,,,RIP my dear friend and warrior....

Stuart was one of the most unique individuals this world has ever known. He's touched more lives then even he could imagine. He loved life, loved teaching, and shared everything he know with anyone who would listen. His classes were never boring, always fun, and impossible to forget.

I just found Stuart's obit while doing some research on old friends. I knew Stuart when he was an associate pastor at the First Methodist Church in Orlando, Fl. Our youth minister
Bob Garigues, Stuart and we two young people (Chip Bone and myself) formed a folk singing group. Great memories! To his family I offer my condolences and hope you know that he was a blessing to all who had the gift of knowing him!

Stuart was like a father to me for a time back in the seventies. He gave me confidence and courage and even let me drive the tractor, and never yelled when I got it stuck. He took me see Star Wars and we pretended that his sleek gold Cadillac was the Millenium Falcon all the way home. He bought me cleats and a soccer ball for Christmas.... I learned a lot from ol' Stu as his knowledge never ceased to amaze me as well as those around him. Go gentle into that good night, sir. You will live on fondly in my memory.

I am so grateful to know Stuart! He was an incredible human being, a phenomenal teacher and an amazing friend. He was open, loving and full of energy and life. I had the pleasure of taking many classes with him, as well as returning to Santa Fe to sit in on his lectures because I couldn't ever get enough! He was my ramage, my Indiana Jones and my mentor. He saw potential in me when I had no vision for myself, and he encouraged me and guided me in developing faith in myself that has allowed me to shape my destiny.

To be Stuart's student was to be his friend, to be his friend was to be his student. I am forever grateful to have been a part of his journey, which is not over, for we have all been touched by his love, which never ends. We carry a part of him with us and will share his legacy with many others! I love you forever, Stuart McRae~
