Jul 20, 2021.....Raining so hard today here in Boca Raton, FL today that I started thinking of going out and getting a rain gauge. Made me think of when I was a child and bought my Dad a Cecil Carrier rain gauge for Christmas. He loved it! So did I.
Always enjoyed watching Cecil on the evening weather back home in Kansas; Rice County. A daily staple for the family. Doubt if I can, but I'll try to surf the web and see if someone out there might have a gauge they want to part with. Cecil was a great guy, and will always have my respect.

I too recall listening to Cecil and his associates on KFH in the early 1970's. While rolling up " The Wichita Eagle " for delivery in Burden,KS I would listen for Cecil to give the weather for his friend-Clay J. Smith's area around Cambridge, as he would do on occasion. He would give the weather forecasts each morning between the farm report and police report, while Johnny Merril (or Morrell) would play a tape of sheep being driven through the studio, while he hollered "Get those Sheep out of here"! We enjoy being reminded of his sense of humor when listening to his daughter carry on the family tradition(s)!
Our deepest sympathies to all of his family.

Growing up, Cecil Carrier was THE weatherman. I could not even tell you who was on the other channels.
As a young child, it was a real thrill when I discovered that the Carriers lived just down the road from my aunt and uncle, and when I got to tag along as my cousins played with the Carrier kids.
This really is sad, as I feel a part of my childhood had passed.

To the Carrier family. We met Cathy few times at B-98 parties for clients, but we also met Cecil through our television and radio many times over the years. It is not easy to lose a loved one especially one who has made such a positive impact on others the way that Cecil did.

Dear Carrier Family,
As I read some of the memories its with a smile, that I recall my mom telling me as a child that Cecil Carrier was a shirttail relative. She would call him sometimes to ask about the weather when we were fixing to go visit my grandparents (Perry and Opal Gordon).Cecil will be missed as the wonderful person and great weatherman. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

We used to take family vacations to Kansas from California where we lived. We would often stay with Uncle Cecil and Aunt Doris. It was exciting to stay with a celebrity!! Cecil would quietly sneak away from family get-togethers to do radio broadcasts from his home studio. I could sometimes hear him when he left the door open. I also remember a trip to the TV studio to watch a broadcast as well. Throughout my life, when I have met someone from the extended Wichita area, I have almost always found that they were familiar with and respected my Uncle Cecil. Besides being a celebrity Cecil was a genuinely friendly and warm person- we will miss him and those trips to his home greatly. Our thoughts are with the family and we wish them peace. Cecil left behind a lot of love for his family.

Our family has had so many great times together throughout my lifetime and the loss last year of Aunt Doris and this year of Uncle Cecil have made a great hole in the Downard family fabric. Aunt Doris and Uncle Cecil were generous, caring and very dear people. Their home was always open to all the family and the Downard clan often had impromptu reunions there--reunions that enriched our lives with countless memories of wonderful times filled with laughter and fun, not to mention the good Kansas cooking that was always part of these gatherings. Reading the tributes that have come from all over, Teri and I take special pride in the fact that Cecil Carrier was our uncle. He was and will always remain such a fine, good man, devoted to both his immediate and his extended family. We were all the better for having known him.

Sorry to hear about your father, grandfathers death. He was a very good person and when he used to do the wather forcasts we would watch as he was usually very accurate just as your are Cathy. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. 20 years ago when I was in high school I worked at Payless Cashways Lumber Yard as a cashier, I remember on several occasions Cecil would come in look around, no matter how long my line was with customers he would wait his turn and wouldn't have anything to buy he would say to me with a smile "I couldn't find what I was looking for but I couldn't leave without saying HI" Every time he came in the store he would brighten my day! I remember MANY years ago the Carrier family lived across the street and your dad had this "thing" in the front yard that would be red and swirling when a tornado was near by. I also remember your mom making Kool-Aid popsicles in your ice trays and sharing them with the neighborhood kids. God's blessings to the entire Carrier family in your time of grief.

To the Carrier Family,
I feel a great loss in my heart at the passing of Mr. Carrier (Cecil), as my mom told me to always call him Mr. Carrier. My family was very close to Cecil for many years. My Dad (Don Horton) and Cecil worked very close back in the 60's building a heating and air conditioning business. My fondest memories of that time was coming home from Midnight Mass and waiting for Cecil to tell a certin 5 kids to get to bed so Santa would come. It became a joke as I grew older, but I never forgot it.
When I moved back to Wichita, in the early 80's he was the first person I looked up. When my mom passed away in 1996, Cecil was there for my Dad so all I can say is Cathy, whatever I can do for either you or your brother just let me know.
Cecil, we will all miss you very much.

To the Carrier family. I grew up listening to Cecil do the weather Forcast. You could trust him because he was a part of your family, or so it seemed. Kathy was like a little sister as we all watched her grow up and have a family of her own. I am very sad to learn of Cecil's passing. Being born & raised in Wichita, I remember the many many weather forecasts "from the weather tower".
One of my favorite memories of Cecil Carrier (other than his weather forecasts) was a silly commercial he did with Greg Gamer and Webb Smith years ago. The three were out at the golf course and, after Gamer hooked his drive into the trees and Smith sliced his drive into the trees, Cecil steps up dressed in knickerbockers and argyle socks and hit his drive right down the middle of the fairway, all this to the tune "The Entertainer" from the movie "The Sting". Thirty years later, I still chuckle at the memory of that silly commercial.

My favorite memory of Cecil was when I was with the Kansas Air National Guard years ago, and we were scheduled to leave on an Air Force plane to go to Savanna, GA for a summer camp. Savanna was socked in at that time with weather, but Cecil said if we would wait a couple of hours to depart, the weather in Savanna would clear for about a half hour at the time we would be scheduled to arrive there. Sure enough, it did. And then after about a half hour, it closed back in.
We were all blessed knowing Cecil.

Cathy and family....a great loss
to our city, but a blessing to him,
to be free of his sickness. I worked
with Cecil back in the channel 12
days as a matter of fact I did on air
commercials for e-Ed White mtrs when he was in Hutchinson and I was
on the street from the Lassen hotel.
we later worked at the larger studio
together. I invited Cecil to come
and speak to our seniors...when I
was exec pastor at Immanuel. Doris
told me of his problem and I had her
bring him anyway and conducted his
time like a radio interview and the
folks really enjoyed that time.
He was and is a special friend and
I could write page after page about
our experiences....my prayers and
expressions of sympathy go to Cathy
and the whole family during this time.

I worked with Cecil for several years at Ch.3 and so enjoyed the conversations we would have about almost anything. He was truly a weather professional, but with a warmth and charm that made you feel he was talking directly to you. I will always remember one of his weather phrases - "severely clear" - that so well described much of our Kansas weather. Both Cecil and Doris also became friends with my parents for a number of years. Wichita has lost a true legend, and he will be greatly missed.

I'm glad to have this memory of him because he was also my favorite weatherman. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

What memories of simpler weather maps and a good story teller. I'm glad I watched his weather casts.

My heart goes out to the Carrier Family. I've enjoyed Cathy's family stories so much for many years that they feel like my own. You are in my prayers.

Sympathey to you all. Cecil lived in the same block as my parents Dorothy/Elton Brown when they lived in Rose Hill many years ago. I was not born yet. Sorry for your loss.
