Bradley LaBrake, 59
PORTLAND - Bradley LaBrake, 59, of Lewiston, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 12, at the Veteran's Hospital in Augusta. Brad was born on Oct. 18, 1955, in Springfield, Mass. As a child he moved to Portland and attended schools at St. Joseph's, Lyman Moore and Deering High. On Sept. 9, 1966, his picture appeared in the Portland Maine Evening Express after winning a set of encyclopedias for his question "What is a Nova?" for the "Ask Andy" column.
He was an avid Red Sox fan. Other hobbies included playing piano, trumpet, singing, performing in school plays, and bird watching with his mom. He enlisted in the Air Force and was an E-4 sergeant who proudly served his country from 1975-1984 with the 381st MMS (Munitions Maintenance Squadron). He later moved to California where he worked as an audit clerk supervisor for LA County's Children & Family Services. He studied Criminal Justice Administration at Antelope Valley College where he earned an Associate's degree.
The youngest of five children, Brad was predeceased by his parents; and his sisters Vickie Carr and Patti Luoma. He is survived by a daughter, Miranda LaBrake of Valley Springs, Calif.; a sister, Jeannine Labrecque of Glastonbury, Conn., and a brother, Harold Labrecque of Brunswick. He also had a niece and three nephews; his first grandson is due in mid-October. He will be sadly missed by family and friends both old and new, from coast to coast.
There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, 83 Stanley Rd., Springvale.
