After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, Mike passed away peacefully in Montreal on September 29 at the MUHC surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Madeleine along with his sister Patricia. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 39 years Nancy Gurd, his cherished daughters Lisa Dawes, Patricia Dawes (Jaime Samayoa) along with his adoring grandchildren Jessica and Nicholas Davis, Emilia and Cecilia Samayoa. Also mourned by his brothers and sisters Sharon (Butch), Daniel (Linda), Maureen, Terry (Judy) and Charles, brothers-in-law Andrew (Angela), Peter (Wendy) and Doug Gurd with his special niece Aliçon plus many nieces, nephews, family and friends who will miss his wise counselling and his wonderful gift of always showing compassion. Mike was a man of principles and integrity. Every action he took and word he spoke was consistent with his commitment and love for his family. He nurtured and cared for people deeply. Heartfelt thanks to the Cedar Cancer Centre and the entire staff in the Palliative Unit at the MUHC Glen facility. A celebration of his life will be held at the Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges. Visitation on Friday, October 9 from 2-5 and 7-9. Service on Saturday, October 10 in the Chapel of the Center at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

We only learned of Mike's passing recently.
I am always indebted to Mike for sharing his love of wine and good spirits!

Mike was the best friend I have ever had and his positive influence on my life is second only to that of my mother's.
I worked with Mike when he was the Assistant Golf professional at Chambly Golf Club from the time I was 14 years old until I was 17. He was a special person to me not only because of who he was and how he treated me but also because of the period in my life that he came along. My father left when I was 12, my older brother left before that even, so when I was 14 I had no adult male figure in my life at all let alone a positive role model such as Mike. For me during those formative years he was a combination of: mentor, big brother, father and best friend. I am truly fortunate to have had this great person play such a pivotal role in my life when I really needed it.
Rest now my Love. This is not goodbye as we shall meet again..

My condolences to all of Mike's family and friends. What a great guy! We worked together at Murray's Sporting Good when we were young and crazy. We last spent time together at Dickie Phillips's home in the late 90s, and I remember what a great conversation we had after so many years. I have never forgotten that time together. RIP Mike.

So sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He was a great friend and I have fond memories of our time at Murray's. Through his encouragement I became a teacher which led to a 30 year career. I will miss him deeply.

I am so sorry to hear that Mike passed away. I went to school with Mike in Knowlton and he was a great person. We never kept in touch, but I do remember him today for all the fun and joy he brought to us all.

Our sympathies to you and your family Nancy. Mike was a fantastic cousin and his love of life was inspirational to all. His passion for sports, especially cross-country running and golf, led him to be a true mentor to those that were lucky enough to know him. I am sure he is running sub four minute miles and shooting 59 at golf every day now in his place of rest. We will miss him dearly.

My sincere condoleances to all family. Mike was a man I met professionnaly but got to appreciate even more on the personal level. He was one of those few special persons everybody can only like. Sincere condolences to Nancy and all the Mullins family. Mike you will be dearly missed and I will fondly remember our annual first Friday of June golf game that we played together for the past twenty plus years. Your friendship, wisdom and excellent humour will never be forgotten. My own memories of Mike will always make me smile, sometimes even laugh and right now that is about the best defence we have against this profound sense of loss.
