Stephen Ceslik Obituary

CESLIK, STEPHEN M. , III On Wednesday, January 30, 2013, Stephen M. Ceslik, III, also known professionally as Steve Deal, died at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long and courageous battle with leiomyosarcoma. He was born in Bridgeport on January 18, 1966 to Karen I. Ceslik and Stephen M. Ceslik, Jr., both of Milford. He was a graduate of Jonathan Law High School. Stephen was a lifelong musician starting at the age of 13. He began playing in clubs at the age of 18 with a notarized note from his parents. Stephen's first record deal was with Relativity/Sony with his band, Bleached Black, where he was known as "Stevo" during this period. He toured the USA and Canada several times as a support group for various bands. Bleached Black's video for the song, "I Was in Your Life", also appeared on MTV. Once the band parted ways, he became involved with several other musical projects, as well as releasing his own solo material. Stephen was also a member of a World War II reenactment group and made many close friends who were like brothers to him. He will be remembered for his love of music, creativity, comedic personality, and his large circle of friends. His love for his 41 lb. cat, Munson, brought Steve much comfort during his illness. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Kerri Sweetman; his brother-in-law, Jason Sweetman; his niece, Alina Sweetman; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, February 3, 2013 from 1 - 4 pm at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Panachida service will be held at 1:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 10:30 am with Very Reverend Steven Belonick officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation, 1191 Maynard Rd., Cheboygan, MI 49721. "You Are My Friend" was our ritual sign off at the end of every one of our marathon phone conversations. I've never enjoyed anything else as much as our friendship, which will never end.

Steve, thanks for coming back into my life the last two years (as I hear "I Was in Your Life" playing in my head) and thanks for all your support in the wildest and weirdest time of my life. How you remained so upbeat in the face of your adversity is a good lesson for all of us -- though I say screw the lesson, I'd rather you were still here. God, you should see all the friends who are celebrating your life as you head off on this next trip. Enjoy that Vespa ride!

Thank you for being a great friend. You always made me laugh. You were able to see me and appreciate me for who I am. I am blessed to have known you and blessed to have been part of your life. You are one of the strongest spirits I have ever known and I will miss you forever! I will never forget you and your spirit will always be with me. You are one of the funniest people and greatest songwriters I have ever known. Rest in peace my friend...God Bless

We showed out affection like most men do. We joked, we laughed, we ranted, and we helped each other out. I'll miss Steven. I'm glad I knew him.

Steve was a wonderful special son, he brought fun and laughter to our lives. I followed his career going to his shows whenever I could. I will miss his silly jokes, strumming the guitar on the couch. his knowledge of history on many things. He adored his niece, Alina, his 41 lb cat Munson. He owns a piece of my heart no one will ever have. Love, Love to you- Mom

Steve was a wonderful special son, who brought laughter and fun into our lives. I had gone to many of his shows, during the years, his friends are like family to me. I will miss him strumming his guitar sitting on the couch, of course, when you were watching the exciting end of a show. He adored his niece, Alina. there is a piece of my heart that only he owns and no one else can have. I will miss him terribly, but his pain is gone at last. Love you Steve

Brother - You are so missed and will continue to be. I am so proud of you. You were talented, smart, funny and so brave. You fought so hard. Life was not fair to you in so many ways and I wish I could have changed that for you. You will live on with us through your music, pictures, videos and, most of all, the great memories which we will share with Alina. You would have made a great uncle and you did for the brief time you knew her. You and I will be together again when it is my time. I love you to pieces. Your sister, Kerri
