EDWARD CARBONELL Obituary

CARBONELL--Edward L. age 46, of Garden City, NY passed away suddenly on Monday, December 31, 2012.
Born in Cuba on May 5, 1966 to Nestor and Maria Carbonell, Edward was an amazing man with a gentle soul and impeccable sense of style. He was loved by everyone who met him. Horacio Silva, in The New York Times, described Ed in the article, "No Store Is a Hero to Its Valet," 2007 as a man "with a charming bedside manner and the best skin in high-end men's retail. He was exemplary; champagne and smiles all around." Edward was most recently employed as the General Manager of Christian Dior in Manhattan, and had previously worked for Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren. Ed loved to travel to far away places and go on adventures with his wife Leslie. They experienced the northern lights in Iceland, the polar bears in the Arctic Circle, the beaches of Tahitii, and the active volcanoes in Hawaii. Hawaii was near and dear to his heart, as it was also where he and Leslie honeymooned eleven years ago. Of all the experiences, Ed's favorite was the ongoing journey with his family. Ed was a devoted father to Henry, age 4, and Charlie, age 8 weeks, and loving husband to Leslie. Services will be held at Fairchild Funeral Home, 1201 Franklin Ave. Garden City NY, on Saturday, January 5 from 7-9pm, Sunday, January 6 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Church services will be held on Monday, January 7 at 10am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 120 5th Street at Franklin Ave. Garden City.

They have that saying how God sometimes takes away the good from us at a young age. It's proven to hit close to home way too many times in my life. I have worked along side Ed from Giorgio Armani to Tom Ford and for 8 years as my manager and can honestly say I've always looked at him like my older brother. He has always been there and given me the best advice in times of need. I always took the confusion between Ed and I as a compliment because he was one of the coolest guys I knew. Ed was a professional, the definition of class, funny, genuine hardworking family man who got along with everyone. I remember the emense joy he had when Henry was born. May his soul rest in eternal peace and may god bless his wonderful family. Leslie, Ed will always be you and your family's gardian angel. RIP Ed you'll be very missed.

Dearest Leslie and Carbonell family please accept my sincerest condolences for your loss. I know That GOD THE FATHER has welcomed him home with open arms. The lord blessed ED with grace and integrity, and blessed us with his presence. For many years I called ED "ELVIS ", not only was ED the best looking man alive he was the standard of excellence in all he did. ED was family to me, a brother I never had. We had great times, and when life was challenging we walked through it together him being the rock. Sweet Leslie, know that ED'S heart, soul and spirit will always be near you and the boys. Dear Brother, I thank you for all you gave to me. ED, I know you can hear me so my brother forgive me for any hurt I may have caused you. Although, we had not seen each other for awhile there was and will always be a special place in my heart. ED, I wish the Lord would have asked, for I would have taken your place. I guess God needed a Director and not a sales person. Well my brother, please hold a sales position for me at the Heavenly Boutique. Please speak to me, I will always be listening. Love you, Louie

"Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee..." The world has lost a truly great man and we are all the lesser for it.

I worked with Ed (and leslie) at Armani years ago. They were both smart, funny, and very kind. This is so sad, but I am very glad to have known him. Condolences to Leslie, their sons, and the rest of his family and friends.

18 years of great memories, much laughter, and an amazing friendship came to an abrupt end with this tragic news. I first met Ed while working at Emporium Armani. It was great to meet someone who was not only a true professional, but also had a very humble and kind demeanor. We both later moved on to Tom Ford where our connection as friends continued to foster and develop. Ed later on transitioned to another company which I was unaware of. When I started at Christian Dior, I was very ecstatic to know that it was Ed who had become their new Men's Boutique Director. We were both very surprised and excited to begin a new chapter in our lives. It was a true pleasure to know him and work with such a wonderful person.
