Katie was a mentor to me and a very good friend from her days at Tamiment. She was always very generous with her time and energy. She will be missed. Deepest Sympathy to her family.

Katie and I are old friends from NYU and I cherish the memories of our time together. Since moving to Connecticut, I haven't visited as often as I would have liked but it was always wonderful to see her so comfortably ensconced at the Convent which she helped to build. All best wishes to all of you in happy remembrance of your wonderful sister/aunt.

To Katie's Friends & Family,
I was so sad to learn of Katie's passing last weekend when Dave called this week. I first worked with Katie at NYU's Tamiment Library/Wagner Labor Archives in the mid 1980s when I followed in her job as an Archivist for the Harry Van Arsdale Labor Records Survey Project and she became the Photo/Film Archivist for the special collections there.
I will never forget our many lively archives conversations and the regular get-togethers with the Tami-Wagner crew then and later over many years; as well as the ART meetings, MARAC conferences and other social gatherings when we would catch up.
Later, when I went to Barnard/Columbia Univ., Katie also left NYU to begin work for the NYC Municipal Archives as a Photo Archivist and Exhibition Curator for many years. I remember her delight in sharing the many stories she'd discovered related to her organizing the voluminous city archives photos and preparing exhibitions of them. Just as she had loved identifying and describing and exhibiting the labor/radical history photos at the Tamiment Library/Wagner Archives in her work at NYU before that.
Katie was a very talented “activist” archivist, with fine progressive principles and perspectives, who maintained an endearing and ironic sense of humor about life and work in spite of her difficulties with multiple sclerosis.
It is entirely appropriate that I am writing this remembrance on May Day-- so Happy May Day Katie! And RIP--gone far too soon.
