Joseph Dragas Obituary


Joseph S. Dragas, 94, of Steelton, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 in his home.
He was a graduate of Penn State University, a retired Negotiator for the AFL-CIO Labor Union, an Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Campaign with 888th Signal Company Depot Aviation. He was the former co-owner of Blanche's Flower Shop in Steelton, a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, St. Lawrence Lodge No. 13 Croatian Fraternal Union and its Adult Tammies where he played the tambura, and the Steelton Lions Club.
Joe was the son of the late Paul and Amelia Cazar Dragas and the widower of Blanche Dimoff Dragas. He is survived by one son, Dennis S. Dragas and his wife, JoAnn of Elizabethtown; four grandchildren, Ali Amey and husband, Chad, Toren Dragas and wife, April, Jason Dragas and wife, Michelle, and Nastassja Esteban and husband, Moises; seven great grandchildren, Zoe Dragas, Madisyn Amey, Elijah Dragas, Elliott Dragas, Reagan Amey, Noah Amey, and Willow Dragas. He was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey L. Dragas and a brother, Rudi Dragas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 11:00 am in Prince of Peace-Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 815 S. Second St., Steelton with Rev. Chester P. Snyder as celebrant. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with full military honors. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm in Wiedeman Funeral Home, 357 S. Second St., Steelton. Recitation of the rosary at 7:30 pm.

I'm very sorry to hear of Mr. Dragas' passing. I often thought of him as a great representative of Tom Brokaw's "Greatest Generation." I think his kind, friendly, straight-forward manner originated in the strength of his character. May he rest in the peace of Christ.

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your Dad. My Mother, Agnes McCaslin, was a sister of your Mom and Dad's neighbor, Theresa Benkovic. I spent many week-ends helping my Aunt and your Mom baking in your Mom's kitchen and your Dad was always so sweet and caring toward me. He would always give me the change he had in his pocket! He will be greatly missed.
