(CSM) Alfred Richard
Moelter
February 3, 1933-
September 7, 2012
Vinemont, AL- Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Alfred Richard Moelter, Sr., of Vinemont, AL passed away in Huntsville, AL on 07 September 2012, at the age of 79 after a gallant fight with illness. He was born on 3 February, 1933 in Pittsburgh, PA.
CSM Moelter joined the US Army on 09 February 1953 as an Airborne Infantryman. He was promoted to Sergeant Major with 13 ½ years of service in 1966. CSM Moelter was a 27 year veteran of the US Army. He was a graduate of the Basic Airborne Course and served with the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division at Camp Mackall, North Carolina from 1953 to 1956. He served overseas in Korea (1955-56), France (1961-64), Vietnam (1968-69) and Germany (1974-77). His last assignment was as the Post Adjutant General Sergeant Major at Fort Benning, GA from 1977 thru 1979.
After retirement in 1979, he earned his college degree from Columbus State University, served as a deputy sheriff with the Harris County, GA Sheriff's Office, and served as a Tactical Officer at Lyman Ward Military Academy in Camp Hill, AL.
In 1986 he moved to Cullman, AL and served for 26 years as the Boy's Dormitory Director at Saint Bernard's Preparatory School. I like, Larry Deer, remember Al from our North Catholic days, particularly football. Al always had a smile and was very pleasant with underclassmen which belied his toughness. He was tough and rugged and although I never pictured him as a carrer meilitary man he had all the qualities it took. I was glad to have played with him.

I wanted to give Al recognition from his North Catholic days.He was a great athlete and student. Lost track of him till now. Obiviously he turned out to be an outstanding soldier and a good man...He was also my team mate in '51.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for a funeral. The sky was a wonderful clear blue with a few clouds and a slight breeze wafting through the trees.

This is CSM (Ret.) Moelter's gravesite in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park.
