Alva E. McALEXANDER

After a courageous one year battle with pancreatic cancer, Mac died peacefully at home with his wife at his side on August 19, 2013. Born on January 22, 1950, Mac was the second baby born at Santa Rosa Memorial hospital when they opened their doors in 1950. He was the son of the late Robert L. and Beatrice E. McAlexander. He grew up in Santa Rosa and was a 1968 graduate of Montgomery High School. He is survived by his wife Robbe Tognotti McAlexander of Santa Rosa, sons Jason and Tony and three grandchildren. He also is survived by siblings Judy McAlexander, Gayle Meyer and Gary Evans. He was preceded in death by Grant, Glenn and Gloria Evans. The son of a Greyhound bus operator, Mac began his career as a bus driver at the Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District in September 1972. He met his future wife Robbe while driving a 4:15 a.m. commute bus to San Francisco in 1986. Together, they developed a love for thoroughbred horses and bought property in Penngrove where they lived quietly for 20 years with their beloved farm animals, horses and dogs. Mac's happiest moments were watching his homebred horses grow and work out in the early morning hours at Bay Meadows and Golden Gate Fields. He also loved to play the horses and spent many vacations traveling to racetracks in Kentucky and Southern California. After retiring from Golden Gate Transit, Mac took culinary classes at the Santa Rosa Junior college and worked as a contract mail truck driver at the Petaluma PD&C. We would like to thank all of our friends and the medical community who helped us through this difficult journey especially Dr. Eric Dean and Dr. Gary Johanson.
