Bobbie Edington Obituary

Bobbie Edington

Coleman, TX

Bobbie Jean Edington, age 83, of Coleman, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, March 28, 2015. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, in the First Baptist Church, 200 East College Avenue in Coleman with Rev. John Stanislaw and Rev. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the Coleman Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

She was born Bobbie Jean Hail on June 24, 1931 in Lamesa, Texas, a daughter of Finis Melvin Hail and Alene Johnson Hail Speck. She grew up and attended school in her early years in Midland and moved to Coleman in the 8th grade. Bobbie was a cheerleader all four years at Coleman High School and was proud to be a Bluecat. Following graduation from Coleman High School in 1949, she attended Hardin-Simmons University. On April 25, 1951 she married the love of her life, Duwayne Edington, in Coleman. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1993.

In 1961, Duwayne and Bobbie, along with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Sellers, built the Coleman Livestock Auction and shortly thereafter Duwayne and Bobbie became the sole owners of the business. Bobbie was the first woman to receive the Honorary Chapter Famer Award in 1986 and in 1995 an award for her Outstanding Contribution to Agriculture in Coleman County. In 2006, she was the recipient of the Harry Holt Good Neighbor Award which was presented by West Texas Rehabilitation Center. She was also a long-time supporter of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Although Bobbie was the owner of the Coleman Livestock Auction, she was also a homemaker who enjoyed her home, loved her family, and loved her Lord. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She was a friend to all and had the gift of seeing the good in everyone.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Sylvia Edington of Coleman; four grandchildren, Jim Bob and wife Elizabeth Edington of Coleman, Macy and Jake Knight of Coleman, Glen Edington of Coleman and Hayes Edington of Fort Hood, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Jeffery and Sadie Edington and Wayne and Eve Knight; numerous nieces and nephews.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her husand, her son, Dan Edington, and her brothers and sisters, M. C. Hail, Gloria Phillips, Marie Campbell and Billy Reece Hail.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan, Coleman.

Bob, Sylvia and family, I am so deeply sorry to hear that Bobbie is no longer with us. That radiant smile and sweet personality will be missed by so many who loved and admired her. Ms Bobbie was the whole package when it came to being a "Southern Lady!" That sing-songy southern accent always laced with "darlin's and honey's." She made you feel like you were the most important person in her life when she talked with you. Always a gracious but tenacious business lady. My goodness... she will be greatly missed by so many across the state of Texas. Please know that I love y'all and will have the family in my thoughts and prayers in the days ahead. Heaven got a jewel for sure!!!
