Joseph W. Grimaldi, 95
Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather
Joseph W. Grimaldi, 95, of Rosebank passed away Sunday at University Medical Center North.
Joseph was the son of Joseph and Mary Grimaldi and a lifelong Rosebank resident. He was a graduate of New Dorp High School.
Immediately upon graduation, he enlisted in the Navy. As a machinist's mate aboard the USS Thurston, he was involved in many major invasions of the war. He was in the invasion of Okinawa, the invasion of Normandy, the Sicilian occupation, as well as the invasion of southern France.
After his military service, Joseph, together with his brothers, started the Joe Grimaldi & Sons Brick and Construction Co. and he worked with his family for 20 years. Staying in the building field he went to work with the NYC Dept. of Building Inspectors, retiring from the Dept. in 1979. He continued to work with his brother, Eddie, in later years doing renovations. Joseph was an active member of the Labetti Post VFW serving as Quartermaster. He was also a parishioner of St. Joseph's R.C. Church.
Joseph was the loving husband of the late Cenel (nee Martucci), his wife of 66 years. He was the devoted father of Joanne Wessolock (Bob), Bettyann Unrein (Mark), and Kathy Fingerlin (Rich). He was the cherished grandfather of Jeffrey, Robert, Cathy Ann, Jason, Kevin, Rich, Jobeth, Joseph, and Teresa, and adored great- grandfather of 11 great- grandchildren. He was also the dear brother of Blanche Rivell and the late Nunzio, Salvatore, Edward, Marie, and Violet. He was also a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews
The Martin Hughes Funeral Home at 530 Narrows Road So. in Concord has been entrusted by his family to care for his funeral arrangements. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Rosebank. Entombment will follow at the Moravian Cemetery.

May this proud veteran, family man and community member rest in peace. Mr. Grimaldi was a kind neighbor and I remember jokingly discussing his family's relationship to Princess Grace of Monaco (Grimaldi). They don't make em like that anymore. Condolences to his family.
