"Barney" was my coach as a freshman at Riley High School. Because of the start I had under him I went on to earn 10 varsity letters in three different sports at Riley and received the honor of "Athlete of the year" in my class of 1956.
I am now an 80 year old living in retirement in Huntington Beach California.
I have been blessed with a successful life that had its start as a freshman at Riley High School.

I've indelible memories of Mr Barnbrook's biology class at Riley: dissections and Mendel's Law are only two that come to mind. He was an excellent teacher, who cared enough to attend the 50th reunion of the Riley Class of 1961. My sympathy to family and friends from an admiring former student who just 3 days ago was speaking fondly of him with 2 Riley alums. Pat Miller Fraze

My sincere condolences to the Barnbrook family. Barney was just down the hall from me, and he never missed a day without a joke -- his presence always brought me grins and giggles. He was the 'spoonful of sugar' that made the day go down easier. Best of all, he was a good man. I'll have many fond memories of a great colleague!

How sad we are to learn of Don's passing. He was such a gentle giant and a quiet leader. We will hold memories of him in our hearts always and pray for each of his family members, some which we have been lucky enough to know as well as the many we've never met. Don's life and love made a difference for us. We will miss his yearly written Christmas cards.
Blessings,
Rev. Hosea and Cheryn Drake

Jim, Timm and Marcie: My sympathy to you on the loss of your great Dad. Our cousin reunions were the best with Barney #1 and Barney #2 which was my late husband. I have many good memories of those events and the last one we had at Marcie's in 2008. May God comfort you on your grief journey. Love to all.

My deepest sympathy to the entire Barnbrook family. I remember how Mr. Barnbrook was always a gracious host to all of Timm's friends as we would meet on a weekly basis at his house. He welcomed us with a smile and great stories about Adams' past. South Bend is a better place because of teachers like him. May God rest his soul . Fred Moreno in Miami.

Mr. Barnbrook is one of the classiest individuals I have ever met. I was fortunate enough to have him for a teacher and a friend. When I think of Adams high school he is one of the individuals that always comes to my mind first. My condolences to the entire Barnbrook family.

On behalf of the JAHS Class of 1982, we extend our sympathies to Mr. Barnbrook's family. So many of us were privileged to have him as a teacher and he was quite possibly THE nicest teacher we had. I had forgotten he graduated in the first class at Adams along with my dad. That was a proud memory for my dad, as it was for yours. What a wonderful tribute. A true man of honor and integrity. How fortunate we all are to have known him. Your memories and his legacy will live on.

Jim,Tim and Marcie I don't know that I can add anything more than what alot of folks have already said about your dad. He was a dedicated family man and coach, mentor, and loving grandfather. Simply put, "he was a good man" and will be very much missed. My sympathies to you all and may you find peace and comfort in how each one of you will remember him and what he meant to each one of you and how he affected each one of your lives.
God bless.

He was like a second Dad to me after my father passed. I am one of the many people who talked endlessly about his wonderful family. Started out as a caretaker for Margie and ended with a dear friend. Thank you, Don. Peace and comfort to all Don's family.

Mr. Cranbrook, was a very important part of my education while at Riley. Only had him for one class, Biology. Do not remember the names of too many Teachers, from the 50s. However Mr. Barn- brook was the kind of man and teacher you did not forget.
Our class of 1960 was happy to have him as our guest for our 50 th High School Reunion.

I am saddened to hear of Coach Barnbrook's passing. A flood of memories come to mind as I look back on sharing my years in high school with him (65-68). Coach was a great man in so many ways...but mentor, kindness and integrity come to mind first. He indeed was a wonderful man. Condolences to the family!
