SOUTH BEND - Vavul, Judith Ann “Judy”, was called to the Lord's arms on May 3, 2017, after her courageous, hard fought battle with cancer. Judy was born in Ft. Wayne Indiana to Donald E. and Deloras (Manning) Ralstin, and spent the majority of her life in South Bend. She graduated from Clay High School, South Bend in 1973. Shortly after graduating high school, Judy married her beloved husband Mike Vavul. Mike and Judy raised their two children Cory (deceased) and Carrie in South Bend. Judy's passions included spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, shopping, golfing at Four Lakes Country Club, and traveling. Some of her favorite trips included her travels to Rome, Austria, Rhine River, multiple spring breaks at Gulf Shore, AL with family friends the Concannons, and her most recent trip to Disney World with four of her grandchildren. She was committed to her faith and was a lifelong parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church in South Bend. She was best known for always putting others needs before her own. Judy offered an empathetic listening ear and words of encouragement and support to anyone in need. She was truly beautiful on the outside but even more on the inside. Her love of others was apparent to anyone who met her. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all. Judy is survived by her husband Mike, her daughter Carrie Vavul, father Donald Ralstin; sisters Karen (John) Campbell, Gerri Lakes; brother Bill (Vicki) Ralstin, along with her six grandchildren, Anias, Jace, Jeremy, Julian, Meya, and Aviana and many nieces and nephews. The family of Judy has requested donations to be made to the American Breast Cancer Foundation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 S R 933, South Bend, IN 46637, Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10 am. The family will receive friends and family Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 2 to 5 pm with a rosary and “Time of Remembrance” at 5 pm at Kaniewski Funeral Home located at 3545 N. Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN 46628 and 30 minutes prior to the Mass on Monday. Interment will be immediately following the Mass at Highland Cemetery on Portage Ave., South Bend.
