To the Snider family: I am so sorry for your loss. I first met Dr. Snider in 1969 when I was just 17 and working in the pathology lab at Sun Coast Hospital. By the mid-80s, I was a transcriptionist in Radiology when I encountered him in the mail room one day, and he asked, "How are the children? You have three now, is that right?" I told my husband later that since I was one of several hundred hospital employees, I was astonished that he remembered how many children we had! However, I now realize that that was part of what made him a successful physician--he cared enough about people to remember small details. I also recall how he and his wife would attend the annual employee Christmas party and circle the room to speak to the people at each table. He was attired in black tie, and one year, his wife wore a formal gown of sea foam green chiffon. I told her how beautiful I thought it was, and she replied, "I like red!" in reference to the cocktail dress I was wearing. I knew then that they were well-matched. Dr. Snider was a fellow countryman as well, as I was born in Chatham, Ontario, not too far from his birthplace of Thunder Bay. In closing, the world and osteopathic medicine are both better as a result of his presence. His was a life well-lived, and I am honored to have known a truly great man. May he rest in peace.

I came to Sun Coast Hospital in 1972 to do an Internship. My new wife and I were taken out to dinner with Dr Snider and his wife Charlotte. I finished my internship and stayed in Clearwater for 11 years. I left and went to Detroit for a 3 year residency in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. I specialized in Brain trauma and Stroke Rehabilitation. I was recruited to the University of Missouri to manage these neurologic problems. I retired in October of 2013.
In ALL these years I had NEVER met a man of Dr. Alan J, Snider's stature. He was the kindness, gentlest honest man I have ever known!

In the earliest days of Suncoast hospital, the Ropulewis family also came from Maine, where our Dad was the first head of OB. The wonderful times our two families shared are always a part of us. We are spread out now, but are with you in spirit - also the Baileys as you grieve the loss of a dear man we always called "Dan'l". With Christmas approaching, my memories always fly to the times we had with the Snider family around the piano singing carols accompanying with stringed instruments. That, of course, is only the beginning of the memories! Joanie was able to attend the memorial to represent our family, but the rest of us are so very spread out. Just know that you are in our hearts and prayers! Ann Ropulewis Erickson

Sweet Charlotte & Family,
I am saddened to hear of Dr Snider passing. I met him around 1989. He quietly pulled me aside many times over the years. He shared with me the importance to read to your children and to nurture their interest. But most important was to instill the love of reading. He knew by age 12 he would become a Dr and dreamed of having his own hospital. So many times he would take my hand and ask me how my family was doing with a special focus on my children. All my children are avid readers. My son was reading Tom Clancy in the 7 th grade. My middle child was reading 12 grade level in 4 the grade and last year my youngest won am award for reading. I give him all the credit. My ? is heavy for Mrs Charlotte. What a wonderful man, a strong dedicated Southern belle Bride. The love they shared is priceless. After so many years together, they carried a lasting spark. I will never forget Doc Snider and will hold Charlotte, close in my thoughts and prayers. So wonderful to live such a full life and to be loved by so many~much love Angela & family~

Warren and I met Dr. Snider and Charlotte here in Wolf Laurel, where they loved to come in the summer and fall. We have many wonderful memories, including the recent year when they were the grand marshals in our annual 4th of July Parade. "Doc" had a wonderful sense of humor and what such a gentleman! He will be missed by many!
