Curtis Woodrow Ringness

1916 - 2014

Rev. Curtis Woodrow Ringness, 98, of Palm Desert, Calif., passed peacefully on March 27, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family. Curtis was a first-generation Norwegian born March 22, 1916 to Christian C. Ringness and Signe M. Ringness in Hastings, Minn. He attended the University of Minnesota studying architecture until he felt called into the ministry and attended Seminary in San Francisco. Curtis began his pastoral career in Tampa, Fla., but quickly rose to executive leadership in the Assemblies of God Headquarters in Springfield, Mo. As director of Home Missions, he traveled extensively and became a prolific published writer. In his seventies, he was called out of retirement to pastor in Santa Monica, Calif., where he invigorated and expanded the congregation. Even in his late years, Curtis, with his wife GiGi, was often called upon by friends and family for his wise advice and steadfast faith. He was an avid reader, athlete and sports fan. Curtis was known for his infectious wit and gentle demeanor. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Anne Lotze; his brother, Roy Ringness; and, first wife Ruth of 57 years. He is survived by his wife H. GiGi Ringness of 18 years; his daughter, Joyce (Charles) McCurry; his sons Curtis (Barry Ralph) Ringness, Jr. and Ron (Margot) Ringness; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and, two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Earl Ringness, of Stockton, Calif.; his sister Ruth Babe Troutman of Corona, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Curtis enjoyed many friends and a large loving family and touched countless lives throughout the world. A celebration of life was held March 31, 2014, at the Mount View Mortuary in San Bernardino, Calif. There will be a private interment on Monday, April 7, 2014.
