Ila Smith Obituary

PLAINFIELD - Ila Fowler Smith, 83, of the Country Club Road, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Her family had been at her bedside.

Born April 28, 1931, in Plainfield, she was the daughter of Levi and Ruth (Bancroft) Fowler and had graduated from Plainfield High School.

On March 17, 1951, she married Robert L. Smith in Plainfield, where she was a lifetime resident. In 1958 they bought their farm on Country Club Road, which they operated until Robert's death in July of 1982. Since that time she and her son David continued to operate it until 2008.

Ila enjoyed her family, raising the farm animals, gardening and walking.

Her memberships included the Grace United Methodist Church in Plainfield and its United Methodist Women as well as the Kingsbury Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Weinreich, and her husband, Douglas, and her son David Smith, all of Plainfield; four grandchildren, Kyle and Neil Weinreich and Josh and Madison Smith; as well as great-grandson Grayson. Also surviving is her brother, Stanley Fowler, and his wife, Joyce, of Plainfield; and brother-in-law Carey Smith and his wife, Jan, of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Fowler and Judy Dix; as well as nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Robert, she was predeceased by her son, Allen, and two brothers, Howard and Fred Fowler.

The service to honor Ila's life will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Grace United Methodist Church in Plainfield.

Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church of Plainfield, c/o Linda Bartlett, 247 East Hill Road, Plainfield, VT 05667.

To the family of Ila Fowler.
I went to Plainfield High School one year.
I always remembered Ila. She was just a hard working lady and when I was playing golf at the country Club Ila was on the tractor cutting Hay. She always had that warm smile for you and my Thoughts and Prayers are with all at this time
