May 5, 2010

It was two years ago today that we lost you. I look at your family and see that the pain is still as fresh as that day, and they don't miss you an ounce less. Funny stories and memories of you are shared on a regular basis. Sometimes we all laugh until we cry. Together, everyone is managing to hang in there "just fine". I think you'd be even more proud of your sons now than you were two years ago. Every day, they remind those around them more and more of you. They're working hard to keep your spirit and honor alive. (They still even run on "Draina time" and have "Draina luck".) They've accomplished so much, both professionally and personally, just in these two short years. I think you'd find it difficult not to brag about what they've accomplished on their own - while always bearing in mind all the things that you taught them, whether a skill or a life lesson. Dolores has been stronger than anyone could ever have asked or expected her to be. I think you'd be impressed that her strength through all of this could have gone head to head with the strength that you so often showed the world. Again, Mitchell, we miss you. And I hope, so much, that you're taking pride in the growth and the endurance that you see in your family. I hope that you can see how much you continue to be loved and cherished, and that there isn't a day that goes by that you aren't thought of and there isn't a moment that passes that someone doesn't wish that you were still here.

Dee, Scott, Kevin my deepest sympathies for your family, how unfair the circumstances. I will never forget the work horse sleigh rides, visiting the mill, we even took some 4H kids to see Mitch's mill in action. Big kids love it too.
We will miss him, and the best way, i think, to remember him, is by recalling the fun moments, keeping him in your thoughts, living life to make him proud of you, to honor his memory.
peace to you,

Delores,Scott& Kevin. Words can't even begin to describe the ache in my heart. He was one of my few true friends. In the past ten years our freindship grew beyond a business relationship to a true friendship. I will forever miss the cold mornings with a hot coffee next to the wood stove and the hot summer afternoons on your deck with some cold beers at the end of a hard day, all the talks about gardening and the endless talks of deer hunting. Little Matty loved listening to the hunting stories and the times the three of us spent in the your woods. Matty just took his hunters training course and was so excited to go small game hunting with you in the fall. We will never forget you ,Mitch . I will continue to make the Dandelion wine that you taught me to make but this years batch I will remember forever. They say time heals all wounds , this one will take an extra long time.

Delores and Family ... my heartfelt love to all of you today and forever ... Mitch was obviously as tough on me as he was on the boys ... he has touched my heart with his commitment, in my being the best that I could be ... I would have loved to have spent time with you and Mitch in the pumpkin patch or just sitting out back behind your home over-looking the barns ... unfortunately, I only knew Mitch in the world of business, but to hear the stories from your neighbors and friends while I was visiting, truly lets me know that I was honored to have him in my life over the past ten years ... I love you and know that I am always here for you ...

Mrs. Draina, Gerry, Dennis, and Murphy (and, of course, Mr. Draina, who now has Mitch beside him)...

Mitch is my best friend..always was and always will be...

...without Mitchell and the Drainas, I would never have ridden a go-cart around a dirt driveway, taken a 20-mile bicycle hike, come across imaginary horses in the woods, played ice hockey on a frozen pond, had peanut butter sandwiches at summer camp, learned poker and hearts at age 10, laughed myself to sleep with my best buddy night after night while Mr.Draina yelled at us to get to sleep, heard Mitch's accordian playing on Christmas evenings, become an eagle scout, ridden on a horse, picked rasberries on a summer day, eaten the best homemade pizza in the world (a la Mrs. Draina), been introduced to high school wrestling, become a member of the Order of the Arrow and selpt overnight in the woods without bedding or a tent, or played tennis at Collins Park ...on and on and on...

the first fifteen years of my life are one and the same memory of Mitch, his mom and dad, and his brothers...for that I am truly thankful...

Mitch, take care of us until we see you again...i see you smiling and i know you are there......

Dear Draina Family,
We are just strangers who stopped a few times last summer to buy corn. We always got a kick out of the big corn sign and frequently waved to the guy sitting behind the veggie stand. We are very, very sorry for your loss.

Aunt Alice and family,
I still can't get over the shock of such a tragic accident. Words can't even express my sympathy. I'm glad I have such great memories of the summer vacations with Mitch and the horses, the blue pick up truck in the back yard, corn on the cob and "wing-dings". (I was too little for the beer and cards at the time). My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone.
