Please accept this delayed post. In 1971-72 I was a senior in high school in Durand Michigan. I and my friend Sally signed up and received metal bracelets to wear to remember a military person who was either MIA/POW. I received Douglas Ferguson and for several years I prayed for him daily. My life went on and occasionally I would think of him and pray for him. (My brother was in Vietnam USN, my cousin 3 purple heart Marine) Several years ago my husband and I visited the Vietnam Memorial in DC and I found Douglas Ferguson in the ledger, still listed as MIA/POW. This morning on our way to church, my husband stopped and bought us a Diet Coke and the name on mine was "Douglas" - I commented again about the bracelet I wore that had his name and my husband acknowledged that I had told him the story many times before. In that moment, I thought about researching his name on the internet. Imagine my surprise when the information came up that he was brought home in 2014 and received a full military funeral and that his sister/family finally had some closure. Tears welled up in my eyes.
I can not imagine how the grief and unanswered questions must have driven "Sue" to never give up hope that day would come. I posted it on FB so maybe others that wore those bracelets and prayed for those soldiers will receive some closure. I no longer have that bracelet, but he was never far from my heart and I want to thank him and his family for his service to me, and my country. He will never be forgotten. May God continue to comfort you and yours.

Dear Sue,
Your commitment to finding your brother was an inspiration to all who knew you. I am delighted that your perseverance brought him home where he can be honored for his sacrifice and that you can finally have peace. I think of you often and remember how kind you were when we visited St. Louis.

With a father that was a pilot in the Air Force during Vietnam, I am happy for Douglas Ferguson, his family, and friends that they finally have a chance to properly say goodbye to one who gave his life defending his country. Its to people, such as Captain Ferguson, that we owe our freedom to. You are never forgotten.

Doug, Thank you for your service with 2 Army tours in Vietnam I know how important you guys were to everyone. After 44 years, finally we can say "Welcome Home, Brother!" My best regards to the family as I know how important it is to have your loved one home after so many decades. America must keep seeking to locate and return the 83,297 Americans still missing in action since WW II.
