CHARLES STEPHEN PHALEN (Age 93)
On Monday, May 26, 2014, of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of the late Anne Howard Phalen; father of Catherine Ann Phalen (Jim Giacomazzi), Charles Stephen Phalen, Jr. (Hildy), James Matthew Phalen (Kathleen), and Dr. Anne Eubanks Phalen (Peter Moser); grandfather of Erin Marissa, Aileen Marie, and Catherine Anne Phalen, Liam Phalen Moser, and Sophia Phalen Moser. He will also be missed by his faithful pup, Lacey. Memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist Historic Church, 9700 Rosensteel Ave., Silver Spring, MD, on Friday, June 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. Interment at a later date. Thirty-seven years ago. A security violation with extenuating circumstances. Months of paperwork. Conflicting opinions. Charlie, very ill but always careful, caring and considerate, took time to write, "Couldn't we find a way to show this man some mercy?" Only then did Charlie leave his office for the surgery that saved his life. Charlie's question won the day. I have never forgotten, nor shall I. Blessings and RIP, Charlie.
