Daniel HENRY Morrissey, JR. (87)
Died Wednesday, January 31, 2018 after a long illness surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. Born in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Daniel H. Sr. and Grace Morrissey (nee Murphy). He was a 55 year resident of Chevy Chase, MD and had moved to Asbury Methodist Village a year ago. A graduate of Brown University, he subsequently received graduate degrees from Georgetown University. During the Korean War he served in the Coast Guard. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara McGrath Morrissey and his loving children, Daniel (Anna), Kerry-Grace (Adam Rice) and Michael and eight adoring grandchildren, Evan, Lauren, Annie, Andrew, William, Christine, Patrick and Alexander. Relatives and friends may call at Holy Redeemer Church, 9705 Summit Ave., Kensington, MD, on Saturday, February 3 from 10 to 11 a.m., where Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Dear Barbara, Dan, Kerry Grace, and Michael -- I was deeply saddened to hear of Dan's passing, your husband and father. I received the sad news from Deanna a couple of days ago. As I am rather close in distance to the Morrissey's residence, I would certainly have made an effort to get to the funeral home and funeral Mass for Dan, had I known. As we were both Federal employees in Washington for about a year from 1979-'80, we used to meet for lunch often at his agency's cafeteria at the Department of Education. I was also a guest for dinner at the Morrissey's home in suburban Washington on more than one occasion. Wonderful and memorable experiences! Dan and Barbara were consummate hosts. I am sincerely saddened to receive the news of Dan's passing. May all of you be comforted in your loss, and may Dan now rest in the peace of Our Lord.

To Barbara and family: I am very saddened to learn of Dan's passing. My sincerest condolences to you all. Dan was a special person in my life, as friend, work colleague, neighbor, Red Sox sufferor, music lover, and of course carpool buddy for over a quarter of a century. I estimate that we drove together over 120,000 miles! I enjoyed immensely his intelligence, wit, humility, advice, caring, but most of all his friendship. He will be greatly missed. May his memory be a blessing.

Our prayers and condolences are with Barbara and the entire Morrissey family. I have many fond memories of Uncle Dan especially his pensive, deliberate conversation and dry, yet hilarious wit. The Morrissey family is a testament to a long life, well lived.
