Hello,
We wanted to let your family and friends know that we are sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Brian McElroy US Air Force Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Not a day goes by when I don't remember my friend Brian. I was with him in Saudi Arabia in 2000 when he bought the diamond for his wife's ring. There has been a whole in my heart since 2006 when he was taken away from the ones he loved and loved him, which was everyone! I pray someday I'll see that crooked smile on the other side and we will jam to "Fly like a bird" with our own lyrics again! I miss ya bro...

To Brian's Family, We share fond memories of Brian on this Memorial Day. He was a tremendous person, and Defender. Our thoughts and prayers are sent to you this day.

I retired a week ago, since we all landed at AJ on thanks giving, one of our mission that I fixed your truck, road was so rough that parts was just falling off desert road, everything is just shaking, I lost my front spot mirror, I was just looking at pictures from BC3 and AJ. I always remember and always will carry 70th patch wherever I go.

While searching through the pages on Defender Challenge 2018, I opened the commemorative page. I saw a person I knew. It was McElroy. I served with him during Spring 2001, 320th SFS at Eskan Village, Saudi Arabia. Brian was a blessing to our squadron. We all went through it together and because of him we would occasionally get to laugh or smile. He was a wonderful person and I send my deepest condolences to all his friends and family. He is sorely missed and will never be forgotten.

Brian and I worked at HEB when we were in high school. Though that was many, many years ago, and we didn't stay in touch past working at HEB, I just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to Brian's family. He was a pleasure to work with, and was truly a kindhearted person. May Jesus continue to comfort your entire family. Thank you, Brian, for your sacrifice!

Hey Brian,

Not sure why I happened by today but wanted you to know that I think of you often and that you will never ever be forgotten. I think of your family too especially your young daughter that never got the chance to know what a great man her Father was. I'm su4re she has learned through stories and am certain that she is as proud of you as we all are.

Hey man, just stopping by saying we all miss you and thank you for your service. It was great knowing for the time we had in basic training and in the SF training academy then a little get together in Colorado. I still have our basic training shirt with our name and the rest of the group's name on it. God Bless to your family. Til next time we meet. MV

Its 13 years since basic training now. It feels like yesterday making plans to meet up at the Mc Donald's on Peterson AFB after graduation. Brian was a great friend and one of the funniest guys I've ever met. I think about you everyday bro. As memorial day approaches once again I'll say a prayer and tell a friend a story about you. A message I received and wanted to share:

"Dear Gold Star Families,

As we commemorate yet another Memorial Day, let us recall the wonderful men & women who have gone before & have fought for our rights & freedoms. Memorial Day is a day for most Americans to BBQ, play, & have a day off from the job. We as Gold Star Families know all too well what this day truly means for us Americans. "Decoration Day"..."Memorial Day"; a day to honor those who have sacrificed & have given their all. "Our Heroes" are remembered every day within the hearts of those close & dear. On Memorial Day, the nation recalls their valor, bravery, & dedication. "Our Heroes" are not forgotten.

Thank you for Aaron, Aaron, Kyle, Jacob, Jonathan, Robbie, Jose, Luke, Marquis, Brian, Scotty, Clint, Roger, Stephen, Nick, Travis, & Paul. Sadly, the list is longer. They are all remembered within my heart & prayers. You are remembered for raising upstanding Patriots...Sons of Liberty.

May God grant you peace within your hearts. May you find comfort in their loving memories. May you always recall them with a smile.

Hugs to you all,".....

I haven't signed the guestbook since returning from our deployment in 05-06. Not a day goes by that I don't reflect on the memories of Brian and Jason and the lessons I learned from them both. Every football game I watch, every HUMVEE I see, every time I hear Taps, and even the silly Burger King kid that Brian imitated so well. My life will never be the same and I can only sypathize with the loss Amber and family have suffered. Your memory lives on. Best wishes to all of your family.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Mac,
I just wrote an email to my son-in-law who is in Iraq now. So thought I should catch up with. Paul sure misses you out on the course. He got his first hole in one this year. I'll never forget the jokes you, Kupe, Gore and the gang at the 50th use to play on me. The smoke breaks either. May you rest knowing we still think of you often with tear filled eyes and know one day we will see you again.

August 18, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I have been meaning to write again for some time. I had the pleasure and priviledge of being at Arlington and visiting you in early April. I know that you saw me from above. I felt your presense as I visited you. I was also fortunate enough to have seen Amber on Super Bowl Sunday, and I felt you there too. I too have previously signed this guest book but As I sit here tonight I can't help but think about Brian. Brian comes up in alot of my conversations at work. What a great friend he was to me and alot of my friends. I wish he was still here. Brian and I would always go at each other about the Braves and the Mets and All I could think about this year is that I know Brian had something to do with the Mets finally winning the division over my Braves. I also know He had something to do with me finally winning a Base Softball Championship. I have tried not to show my emotions but as I got to see Aymber, Cally, Ian, Vicky and Simon 2 weeks ago. I couldn't help but get emotional. I know Brian is smiling down on us as He is watching Aymber be as strong as any person I have ever seen. Cally looks just like Brian and it breaks my Heart when I think about Cally being away from Her Daddy. Ian, Simon, and Vicky are the greatest people I have ever met. They have done alot in Brian's memory. They have traveled all over and you can tell they are exhausted but every time you talk to them they have a smile on their face. I am so privileged to have Brian, Aymber, Cally, Ian, Vicky, and Simon has a part of My wife and our children's lives. Aymber gives me so much strength and to hear her the other night on ABC it just broke my heart. I too have visited Arlington a few times to visit and pay my respects to Brian and Jason. Aymber it was great to see you and your family and spend a little bit of time with you guys. I will see you guys soon. Brian, I miss you very much my brother and I think about you every day. You would be proud of your wife, daughter and your in-laws. Losing you will take a long time to heal but I know you always look down and take care of everyone because that is the kind of person you are. My wife, Payton and I love you and miss you.

November 8, 2006

My previous entry was a bit rushed, and interrupted by confused thought at the rush of sudden emotions, so after deep thought, I had to post some additional thoughts. When I arrived for training in October 05, I was placed in Bravo Flight, while McElroy and Norton were already in Alpha. Because of the training format, our Flights were made to be highly competitive as a method to make all of us push ourselves to be the best. The training style worked, and the rivalry continued even in country (who took the most missions, who pushed farther, faster longer…) We didn’t co-mingle much and many of us only had cursory words for each other when we stopped at the bases. There was always friendly banter on the radio when our convoys passed on the Iraqi roads. It was great to here the call-signs of teammates, regardless of the flight. Many times I would here the one sided conversations of our guys (and girls) as they interacted with air support and always hoped for their safe return. I felt their frustration when they were in difficult situations, and dreaded hearing that they were in danger. We were all 70th.

On my fourth mission, my crew and I headed North with a large group of vehicles and made it to about one third of the way to our destination. A vehicle breakdown brought to light problems that required new vehicles to be brought to us. My team was stuck at Scania for 3 days until a convoy commanded by TSgt Norton arrived with the trucks we needed. There was still the better part of a day before my convoy could head out, so I went to get some chow. There were few seats, and fewer friendly faces (Air Force are still an outcast group in a room full of Army). I saw Norton and McElroy at a table and decided to join them. It was the first time we had exchanged words other than the cursory greeting or exchange of info. We began the banter and tossed back and forth advice and intel on the roads, as well as well wishes. Jason did the bulk of the talking, and Brian sat by somewhat quiet. He did throw in his thoughts, and the three of us were in great spirits (especially considering the surroundings.) That night when we left, Brian and Jason were nearby as we both awaited our turn to depart. When we left we exchanged our parting “Good Luck”s , and “Keep your head down!”. I felt that I had made to very good friends, and could not wait for a chance to talk to them again… it never happened.

A few days later, while setting at a base near Faluja, my Army attachment informed me that we had just lost two Air Force personnel (they got a message form members of their unit attached to Brian and Jason’s convoy, and had helped with the medevac). I had them find out if the people had been 70th or 424th. Word came back that it was 70th, but they could not give names. I contacted my HQ to find out if they had heard, and they hadn’t found out yet. It was three day before we got the names. Three days of wondering who… When I got the news, I was crushed…I hated that I had not known them better, and now I would never have the chance.

I still see them everyday sitting at that table at Scania smiling…I barely knew them yet miss them with all my heart.

Thank you, Shamrock and K9…

I saw tonight on ABC that you dedicated your run in the Marine Corp Marathon today to your husband, to telling everyone how incredible he was and how incredible all his fellow soldiers are. My heart goes out to Brian's family -- I did not know Brian McElroy, but I read a lot about him when he died in January of this year near Taji.... As time goes on, may the pleasant memories of his life warm the lives of his loved ones.

Brian, well its a little over a year now that we departed for the unkown of the mission that lay ahead. I knew very little about you before we left but by the time we had finished BC3 and hit boots on the ground in AJ, I was confident you were of solid character and would do what it took to get the mission done. Not a day goes by that I do think of you and Jason several times over. I will never forget our last encounter just a day before you were leaving for your fateful mission. You were ecstatic about the opportunity to finally drive for Jason. That is how I will always remember you and it always puts me at ease to know you two were together on that fateful night. You left all of us Scorpions with a little part of you and your humor was greatly missed and often discussed with fondness.

I had the privilege to work and get to know Brian at Schriever AFB when I was there from 2000 - 2004. I think I speak for the majority, if not everyone who has signed this book and those who have not yet signed; that even after 8 months the thoughts and prayers and still there. My heartfelt condolences to all the family and friends! Trust me, you are not forgotten Brian!

I noticed not many Scorpions (70th MTD, unit Brian and Jason served with in Iraq) have signed the guest book. I was Brian's Chief Enlisted Manager and I'm proud to have served and worked along the side of him. I do have to share one quick story. A few convoys prior to the tragic accident I had the privilege to ride in the convoy with Brian. We were in Kuwait and he and I were trying to tie down an M-1 Abrams tank. I looked over at him and asked him, how many times do you think a Chief and Cop have tied down an M-1 tank to a forty footer? He looked at me with his big grin and said, probably never :) Brian and Jason are truly American Heroes in my mind. Not a day goes by I don't think of them. They truly were great Men, great Fathers, great Husbands and great Friends. God Bless, and if any of you need anything, don't hesitate.

Brian,

What can I say to you that I know you already new. You weren't just my brother-in-law you were a little brother to me. I remember when I first met you. You were 17. Wow! I will never forget when you lived with James and I. I am so glad we had that time with you. You were an awesome brother and uncle. I see so much of you in Kaley. I know you will live on through her. I can't begin to thank you for all the times you checked on me when James was deployed. You had the biggest heart and you loved with your whole heart. I have so many wonderful memories that I will share with Kaley. Remember when we tipped the canoe. I miss your laugh your joking around with James. I know he will never be the same none of us will. Melissa is right you have left an emty whole in our hearts, but when I am sad I will remember all the great times we shared. You made the ultimate sacrafice for our country. It isn't fair that you had to go so soon. Just do me a favor and pick us out a nice room up high in the clouds so we can joke and laugh again. I promise to check on Aymber and Kaley because I know you would do the same. I love you always. God rest your beautiful soul.

Brian, my world collapsed the night I received the devastating news you were gone. My brother whom I love dearly is gone, this just doesn't seem real to me. I feel as if I am in a bad dream and can't wake up. My heart has an empty and lonely feeling now. How can this be? Why were you taking away from us all at such a young age? It was not suppose to be this way. I know you sacrificed everything you held dear for your country and for liberty, but it was such a big and selflessness price to pay. My brother, my hero!

Who is going to give me those big bear hugs, you know the ones when you squeezed with all you might. Who is going to say, "Hey, big sis, love ya"...no one. Those are now forever etched in my heart. Brian, my warm memories of you will be with me all the days of my life, and I will cherish every one of them. No one can ever take them from me because they live within me. I hope you can feel all the love that I have for you. Brian, I have decided with all of the love and compassion that you have given me, is to live life the best way I can, because someday I will join you and I want you to be proud of me. So, if I do good things with my life, if I laugh or if I smile, don't ever think that I have forgotten or have stopped missing you. There won't be a day that goes by that a smile or a tear won't come across my face just thinking of all the times we shared together. Thank You Brian for loving me for me!!! I love and miss you terribly!

Love Always Your Big Sis,

Dear Mrs McElroy,

I was there that night on that convoy. I was the vehicle behind Brian and Jason. I am also Security Forces at Elmendorf. I was deployed last year in Korea with Brian as well. Me being an Oklahoma fan and him being a Texas fan Brian always gave me lots of grief, but I enjoyed every moment of it. Brian is one of the most awesome guys Id ever met. Mrs McElroy, when it happened and we sat there, all afraid for our lives and terrified if Brian and Jason were going to make it...I thought of you. I thought of you and your daughter. Amber I say this with all my heart that Brian was and still is the heart and soul of our team. He made us "click". Mrs McElroy, just know that Brian was a true friend and loved by everyone he came in contact with. He is and will always be dearly missed. Im an Oklahoma guy but if I can say one thing to him I would say "Hook em"...I know that would bring a giant smile to his face. If you and your daughter ever need anything from the Hollingsworth family, please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you, SSgt DaRon Hollingsworth

Brian and I had alot of good memories together. I became good friends with him a short while after He arrived at Elmendorf. We worked together, we played softball together, we laughed together, we did alot of things. On 22 January my life came to an abrupt hault, I lost a coworker, a golfing partner, a fellow softball player and most of all a very good friend. Brian is not only a hero, he is my Role Model. He lived a wonderful life. He has left behind a great Family. He was a family man first. We had alot of long talks over the summer and He thought there was nothing like His wife Amber and His daughter. He though the world of them. He put his family and friends before himself. Over the summer when my wife was deployed for quite a few months and It was just me and my 7 month old son, Brian helped me out alot. He helped take care of my son at the softball games and He would often offer to pick up my son from daycare. I have alot of very fond memories of Brian that I could write 100 pages about. Amber I know we will continue to be friends but if you ever need amything no matter where I am at, I will do it for you. My wife and I think the world of you and Kyleigh. Brian, one day you and I will meet again and we will talk about the good ol days and play softball together one more time. Folks if you look up the definition of Role Model in the dictionary it should have a picture of Brian McElroy. I miss you and I will always love you like a brother.

I do not personally know SSgt McElroy, but I am also a member of Security Forces (currently deployed to Afghanistan). You gave the ultimate sacrifice while DEFENDING the legacy of the Blue Beret and badge. As you pass through the Main Gate of Heaven, look down upon those of us that are still in harms way, continuing the mission you intended to finish. You are now our "Guardian Angel" HUAH! May peace come to your family in their time of bereavement.

Sincerely,

I had the pleasure of serving with SSgt McElroy in South Korea two consecutive times, once in Kwang Ju AB for nearly 5 months of deployment and 1 month at Osan AB for commando warrior. In Kwang Ju he was my flight chief, roomate and one of the best role models i have ever known. I learned a great deal from this man and enjoyed a lot of great times with him. We went to commando warrior toghether right after getting back from deployment and there he was our squad leader, i wouldn't of asked more of him there he made the training so much more bearable for us through the moral he brings. This was very hard for us to bear, loosing someone so close to us: a great mentor, leader and a dear friend. You will be missed, and never forgotten.

I had the honor of serving with Brian at Elmendorf, TDY to Kwang Ju, and in Iraq. He was a great guy who always worked hard yet made everyone laugh at the times we needed it most. The void left by Brian will never be replaced. My sincere condolances to his family. I just wanted to share with you that our convoy team has painted a Shamrock for Brian and a K9 print for Jason on the sides of our vehicles to remember them both on each mission. I know they will be looking out for us. God bless!
