Family-Placed Obituary
CORNETT Melvin Age 71, of San Benito, Texas died Saturday January 5, 2008 at 1:50 p.m. at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. He was born on May 22, 1936 in Hamilton, Ohio the son of Steve and Betty (Melton) Cornett. He was educated in the Reily public schools and served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1990, in Greenhills, Ohio he married Pamela M. Slater. He was an owner-operator truck driver and a well known professional race car driver. He is survived by his wife Pamela; 1 daughter Cindy (Bruce) Resler; 2 step-children Stephen (Patty) Dailey and Dawn (Patrick) Doyle; 9 grandchildren; 2 brothers Gene (Sylvia) Cornett and Eldon (Darlene) Cornett; He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Jay, Glen, Lee and Paul Cornett. Funeral Services will be Thursday January 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Paul R. Young Funeral Home 3950 Pleasant Ave. Hamilton. Burial in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Remembrances may be sent to Ronald McDonald House. Condolences may be sent to www.paulyoungfuneralhome.com

You were the last of the true heroes when you drove Watsons Offy to the checkers at Terre Haute with an open face and goggles. One of the real chargers at Hales Corners in the midget heydays there. Guys like you are not forgoten,but live on in the hearts of true midget race fans. Have a beer with the boys at the "Golden Speedway" and thanks for all the thrills thru the years. Doctor.

Mel,you saved my life when I crased at Rocford,You, were the first one to the car, asked me if I could get out, she was about to blow,fuel all over the place, I'd been knocked cold. Your braverey in and out of the race car showed what you were, Thanks again and RIP
